We're home, and have to take him back in the morning for a recheck. If he vomits at all tonight we have to take him to the emergency vet.

Bilbo is still at the vet, they're giving him IV fluids and taking two more X-rays, to see if things are passing through normally. His first x-rays showed that he had a lot of gas, and the vet said she thought she saw something abnormal, but wasn't sure...she's going to send the pictures to a radiologist for their opinion.
We'll see. Zach and I will go pick him up in about an hour.

I'm taking Bilbo to the vet at 1, because he's been throwing up and isn't interested in eating this morning...well, all he wants is grass and then he throws up. He started this on Tuesday morning, when he woke us up at 6am, crying. He'd thrown up a bit of acid, but that's nothing new for him; he has a sensitive stomach. He ate his breakfast and dinner just fine on Tuesday. He did the same thing yesterday, ate his breakfast and dinner no problem. Today he won't eat his breakfast but constantly cries to go outside and eat grass, he pottied in the house, and has thrown up at least five times, inside and outside. Poor baby.

I agree. PLEASE get him to an avian vet NOW. Some emergency clinics do have avian vets on call. This sounds really bad, please don't wait.
I'm so sorry. I know the helplessness you're feeling. I just had my baby parrotlet put down yesterday, after months of vet care. She just couldn't figure out what was wrong. Good luck.
Here is what a veterinarian will potentially do:
A fecal gram stain, to check for bacteria in the feces A complete blood panel (it's amazing what may show up in blood work) Possibly prescribe Baytril, an antibiotic
My advice will differ from easttex, and that's okay. I suggest putting a lamp with a gooseneck (one that's flexible) next to your baby's cage. He's sitting fluffed up, trying to keep himself warm. The light and heat from the lamp will help with this. Cover the cage on three sides to hold the warm air in.
Again, good luck!

Thank you so much, Gary. I couldn't cover Taz last night. I got him in his cage, but fell apart before I could get him covered. I said goodnight and left the room. It hurts so bad. It sounds awful, but the only other bird that caused this much heartache when he died was Arnie, our first bird. We threw away Pico's cage yesterday. We couldn't take a chance of it being infected with some bacteria, or something. That was a really hard thing to do, but if we bring another baby into our flock at some point, the house has to be as clean as we can get it.

Siobhan, you can contact Mollywood, if you want, and ask if he can join a flock at the sanctuary. They don't rehome their birds, or interact with them, really. They live in small flocks, in aviaries. Volunteers clean the aviaries and feed and water the birds. I've never been there, but I have heard great things about them.

Dr. Ferguson spent a lot of time talking to the vet and vet techs, discussing Pico's condition and then told the vet (who only sees dogs and cats) how to euthanize him. I can't thank all of them enough.

He was my baby, and I loved him more than words can describe. I had wanted a Parrotlet for so long, and I couldn't have asked for a better baby.
Thank you so much for all of your support and kind words.
He was unresponsive when I uncovered him this morning, but I thought he was sound asleep. I knew he was having a seizure when I tried to give him his antibiotic a half hour later, and couldn't get his beak open. I pried him off of the grate and put him on the heating pad, but he didn't improve. At 11 I had to go to the vet to pick up the Valium, and decided to bring Pico with me so he could get a dose immediately, and also so the vet techs could see him. They gave one syringe, but it had no effect, so she immediately called Dr. Ferguson to ask if she could dose him again. No improvement after the second dose. At that point I knew that Pico was too tired to fight any more. I texted Zach and told him what was happening, and I tried to wait for him to go on his lunch break, but the office was closing. So I signed the form and we took him in back. I was with him the whole time, and he went peacefully.

Oh, man....what an experience. This is the third bird I had put down, and the hardest by far. We had literally tried everything we could to get him better, and that is heartbreaking.
