We've had our parrot for a year and he's been acting very strange recently, yesterday I found him sitting at the bottom of his cage and at first it seemed like he couldn't step up. I tired feeding him but he doesn't wanna eat. He hasn't been replying to a single thing and he's just been slumped over and sleeping the entire day. I don't know if I'll be able to afford a pricey avian so I wanted to come here first

You need an avian vet ASAP. No one here is going to be able to tell you what is wrong, but I can tell you that it sounds very serious from what you describe. By the time a bird shows this kind of distress, it needs medical care urgently. I would even see if there is vet care available on Sunday, assuming you're in the U.S. Until you can get him seen, make sure he stays warm and out of drafts and out of bright lights. The only thing I can suggest is if it is possible that he is a female, there could be egg-binding. You need a vet in any case. Good luck.

I agree. PLEASE get him to an avian vet NOW. Some emergency clinics do have avian vets on call. This sounds really bad, please don't wait.
I'm so sorry. I know the helplessness you're feeling. I just had my baby parrotlet put down yesterday, after months of vet care. She just couldn't figure out what was wrong. Good luck.
Here is what a veterinarian will potentially do:
A fecal gram stain, to check for bacteria in the feces A complete blood panel (it's amazing what may show up in blood work) Possibly prescribe Baytril, an antibiotic
My advice will differ from easttex, and that's okay. I suggest putting a lamp with a gooseneck (one that's flexible) next to your baby's cage. He's sitting fluffed up, trying to keep himself warm. The light and heat from the lamp will help with this. Cover the cage on three sides to hold the warm air in.
Again, good luck!

I agree with the others - get him to a vet as soon as you can. Avian vets can often tell just by looking at the bird what may be wrong. Plus he will do a lot of tests so you know pretty quickly what is going on. See if you can work out a payment plan with the vet - they are usually pretty good about people not having a lot of money. Good luck and please let us know how you go.

It does sound like your parrot is ill, and should be seen by a vet-- if not a certified avian vet, one that's simply experienced in caring for birds.

A bit late to this thread, but I definitely agree with the others. A vet is urgently needed. I hope everything goes well with your little one. Please keep us posted!
