Zach said something yesterday that made a lot of sense. He reminded me that I didn't have a chance to mourn for Pico before I left for California.
He told me that it's okay to be sad.
A very wise forum member used a great word to describe how I was feeling. "Overwhelmed".
It seems funny, but just having a word to describe it, combined with having permission to grieve (I think I was punishing myself for feeling depressed), has helped me feel more at peace with my feelings.

Here it is yesterday: and today: I didn't think to take the picture BEFORE I put the cream on it...but you can see that it's much better.

Also, the list of things that Teflon is in is surprising. Just FYI.
From avianavenue.com:
There are a lot of products on the market that may contain PTFE or PFOA, more commonly known as teflon. PTFE and PFOA are very dangerous to our birds. Non stick coatings and surfaces are made by many different companies and manufacturers, under many different brand names. You need to be alert when purchasing products that contain the words: non stick, PTFE, PFOA and polytetrafluoroethylene. Do not rely on just a manufacturer or brand name. Here is a list of products that may contain it. Please read labels and look for the words nonstick, PTFE, PFOA and Polytetraflouethylene.
Some Products That Use Polytetraflouethylene: (Please check this list often as more products will be added ~ New items will be added to top of list).
Popcorn popper air & oil types Heat lamps Portable heaters Sole plates on irons Ironing board covers Burners on stove tops Drip pans for burners Broiler pans Griddles Many cooking utensils Woks Waffle makers Electric skillets Deep fryers, crock pots, Hot air popcorn poppers Coffee makers Bread makers Non-stick rolling pins Lollipop molds Corkscrews Never-Stick-Stainless Steel Stockpots Roasters Non-stick gingerbread molds Pizza pans Tortilla presses Hair Straighteners Microwave popcorn bags
...and many more! Please check out products thoroughly before using them around your birds. Safety is our number one concern.

Cast iron is fine, and I wouldn't use the Pam in the aerosol can, but you can use EVOO or something (I use melted butter) to rub on the pan.

I'll post a picture of Cami, I'm hoping that it's an allergic reaction to something, and the dose of Benadryl I gave her helped...I'll know when I get out there. I'm feeling a bit better today. The wine, chocolate and a good night's sleep were very helpful. LOL

Yeah, just be careful not to let water evaporate as it boils....I don't remember the word for it LOL, and be careful when you're stir-frying or sauteing, not to let the oil burn (happened to me once, scared me to death!). EDIT: When the oil caught fire, I put the fire out and then had all of the birds out of the house within 5 minutes, and took them to the vet the next day. I got lucky; they were all fine.

The problem with Teflon is the coating. When it's heated to high temperatures (and there is some disagreement on what 'high temperature' means), it releases toxic fumes that can kill birds in minutes. I admit that I use Teflon, but am extremely careful.
I don't know anything about the Pet Fresh deodorizer. I know that the makers of Febreeze don't recommend using that around birds.

I was chatting on FB with one of our forum members....I told her that I'm going to go to the store, get something for dinner, a bottle of wine and some chocolate, come home and eat my dinner, then enjoy my wine and chocolate while relaxing in a hot bubble bath. I'm very wound up (stressed) right now, and I was thinking about the advice I give to a close friend of mine when she gets stressed. "Take a hot bath and have a nice cup of tea" is what I always tell her. I think I'll take my own advice.

Okay, I'm sorry but I have to vent. I'm at the point where I wish I could rehome all of our animals, and not have to deal with this!!!!! Pico's illness and euthanasia took a huge toll on me. I miss him terribly. Bilbo's illness(?) has been extremely stressful. It's going to hit our bank account hard....thank goodness for Care Credit. Today I got a text with a picture, from my friend I'm temporarily boarding Cami with. It showed Cami's rear end with a HUGE area that's inflamed, rubbed raw and looks bruised. I rush out there, to discover that OH HOW LOVELY, she's dead lame in her right front foot! YAY!!! I'm completely fed up, had it up to the top of my head!!!! Enough already!!!!!!!!

Bilbo is home; the ultrasound didn't show anything, and the blood work came back normal. So, he's on Pepsid to reduce acid in his belly, and I think we'll be switching him to a raw diet.

A bit of good news...it's not an obstruction, so he doesn't need surgery!!! YAY!
The blood work results aren't back yet. Since he doesn't have an obstruction, they'll feed him and give him some water and see how he does. We're not out of the woods yet, but I'm so relieved!!

Sigh....the X-ray was inconclusive (the radiologist couldn't say for sure if there's an obstruction or not). So. I had to leave him again, and they're doing blood work and an ultrasound of his upper GI tract.
Dr. Lucas is a wonderful vet (Bilbo's usual vet, the doctor he saw yesterday was new to us) and said that this is what she would do if Bilbo was hers.
Please pray that the ultrasound is clear and Bilbo won't need surgery, and that the blood work is normal and he doesn't have pancreantitis or something.
He also has a growth on his gums, and she wanted the blood work in preparation to do surgery to remove that.

Bilbo seems better this morning. No crying, no throw up. He has a follow up appointment with the vet in 45 minutes... Hopefully she'll take the IV catheter out and give him a clean bill of health.
