Arnie wasn't a Quaker, he was a budgie. But one of my favorite stories about our birds is this one. My hubby plays video games in his spare time, and often yells "colorful" words. One evening Arnie was yelling at one of his toys in budgie speak, and all of a sudden, plain as day in the middle of his squawking he yelled "G*d dammit!!" Zach and I looked at each other and started laughing. So funny!

HA!!! The Seahawks won 16-15!!! I have to say, they didn't look too impressive, though. Oh well, this was their first pre-season win, so maybe they'll build on it. Dinner was really nice. I ordered Shepherds Pie from a nice place, and Mom made one too. Hers was better. LOL. She also made a really rich and delicious chocolate cake that was to die for. Yummy!!!

Awww, thank you, Jan! For us Americans my birthday is tomorrow, but it's only 2 1/2 hours off...may as well celebrate early! Zach is getting off work early tomorrow and we're having dinner with my parents and grandma. It will be nice. LOL It was funny - my mom called me yesterday and asked if, instead of going out for dinner, if we could get takeout from a nice place, because there's a Seahawks game on! Of course I said yes! And, just because it's my birthday, the Seahawks HAVE to win! LOL

LOL I'm glad you rescued the volunteer! Hopefully they'll sort out their pecking order and will calm down soon.

I'm going to share my Facebook post from yesterday. ---------------------------------- Praying for those affected by the fires in central and eastern WA. Thank you to ALL of the fire crews, and other volunteers who are helping those in need. Thinking of all of the displaced wildlife and domesticated animals, and those who didn't make it. Finally, a huge thank you to the three firefighters, whose lives were lost in the line of duty. Thank you for your sacrifice, and may you rest in peace. --------------------------------- Right now, a huge area of Washington state (over 740,000 acres) is on fire. Zach and I are okay up in our corner of the state (the sky is full of smoke); the closest fire to us is about 55 miles southeast (as the crow flies) and has burned 3000 acres, but thousands of people have lost their homes further east. My heart goes out to them. If we have members in central or eastern WA, please know that I'm praying for you every day. My aunt and uncle live quite close to the largest fire (it's currently 10 miles from them), so that's a constant worry for my family. They are okay for now, and they do have an evacuation plan/route. An interesting tidbit of information, there are firefighters from Australia and New Zealand coming to our aid. Thank you so very much! I'm sure many of you have seen this on the news, but here are some maps to show where the fires are. For at least one person who I'm sure will worry, here is where I live in relation to the Upper Skagit fire. And all of the fires in Washington, as well as some in Oregon and Idaho.

I use hemp. And I completely agree with using PVC pipe for building a playgym (post pics of your progress!).

Zach and I don't (and won't) have human children, so our animals are our kids. I've poured everything I have into them over the last several months, and it took a toll on me.
I'm still recovering from the loss of Pico, but I know that the pain will fade.
I'll be okay.

Things have calmed down a lot. Cami's owie is healed, and Bilbo's foot and tummy are better. Now I can take care of myself.

It's hard to say, because it depends so much on the individual birds' personalities. Each bird should have its own cage, but Siobhan has pretty much an indoor aviary with two quakers, two cockatiels, a budgie, a pigeon, and I may be missing one or two...LOL
I've personally had a quaker, a budgie and a cockatiel hanging out outside their cages (but not interacting with each other), and the quaker, cockatiel and a parrotlet (again, not interacting with each other).
Good luck!

Stung!

Ow! I'm sorry you got stung. I'm terrified of bees. I'm not deathly allergic, but the one time I did get stung I apparently put my foot closer to the bee than he appreciated.
My whole foot swelled up for several days.

Thanks, Siobhan. Bilbo had a hot spot that turned into a massive skin infection a few years ago. It did look kind of like this. But this is responding very well to the Benadryl and cream, so I don't think it's the same thing.
