Hello all, I am the proud owner of Jack, a four month old blue Quaker. I so enjoy being with him, he's so playful and sweet and loving. He was hand reared and so very tame, he shouts a lot but I am training MYSELF to totally ignore him when he does this and I believe it's working. I am looking forward to his first word (if he is a talker) that is. Will post a photo or two soon.

Hello to you both. Quakers can be noisy however, they are usually trying to communicate with you. I would not expect words that mean anything other than he is repeating words that you constantly say to him. Unless of course he calls you "monkey breath"... lol.
I hope you will enjoy your little one. They are so very entertaining. Feeding them is always fun because they love a lot of things that we eat. Share a little of your food and you will have a friend for life.

Welcome to the forum. Feel free to ask any questions - we are all here to help and support each other. I am the Monkey Breath mentioned in Julianna's post. My quaker delights in calling me that name. I didn't teach him those words!!!!

Welcome! Talk to Jack often, and he may eventually decide to say something back to you. Frequently repeat any words or phrases you'd like him to learn, and use words in context. You might always greet him in the morning with a few cheerful repetitions of "good morning," for instance. There's no guarantee that any parrot will learn the things we want them to say-- often it's the ones we'd rather they didn't repeat that they say enthusiastically. But the more you talk to your parrot, the better the chances that the parrot will learn a few words.

Arnie wasn't a Quaker, he was a budgie. But one of my favorite stories about our birds is this one. My hubby plays video games in his spare time, and often yells "colorful" words. One evening Arnie was yelling at one of his toys in budgie speak, and all of a sudden, plain as day in the middle of his squawking he yelled "G*d dammit!!" Zach and I looked at each other and started laughing. So funny!
