Things are not looking very good. When I got to the hospital this morning they said he would not eat and was just sitting all fluffed. I got him to eat a couple bits of scrambled egg, but nothing more. He's dehydrated, and the vet thinks what he is taking in is going into the abdominal cavity, so he has to have a catheter. He started pooping black while I was there, another complication. He was given two anti-inflammatories, and I think they helped make him more comfortable. Lab results are not in yet. The vet did say that the mass has shrunk a little, perhaps because of the lupron, and I did notice that his breathing is a bit easier. So I had to leave him there, but sat with him from about 8:30 to 1:00, when I had to head back. He was totally glued to me. Leaving him was one of the hardest things I've had to do.

Sounds really tough... Man, I'm sorry Easttex. I'm glad to hear they were able to make him more comfortable at least. Poor little guy. We will continue to keep you both in our thoughts and prayers.

Oh, L...I don't want to use your name here, but feel the need to reach out in a more personal way. I'm in tears for you.
I know the helplessness you're feeling, and am so, so sorry that you had to leave Peppy. He is in very good hands, though, and they will do their best for him.
Try to think positive, and send positive energy to Peppy. It does make a difference; he will feel it. I'm praying for all I'm worth, for him and for you.
Please know that we are all thinking of you and Peppy, and rooting for him. Sending you lots of love. ((((((HUGS))))))

The lab results are in, but they don't provide perfect clarity. Still no indication of which organs might be involved, though we do know the mass is a granuloma and not cancer. It is inflammation either bacterial or fungal. He is being treated for both. The question is whether or not he will respond. If not, the next option is surgery to remove the mass. There are all kinds of risks with that, and as the vet said, I would have to be prepared to lose him on the table. He is about the same today, but is having more trouble breathing again. As I see it, if he doesn't respond pretty quickly to the medications, the choice becomes surgery or euthanasia.

I talked with the vet last night, and she suggested postponing any decisions. He seemed to be perking up a bit. I'm trying to manage my hopes, because I've seen that throughout his illness. I'll think he's getting better in the evening, only to see him worse the next morning. I'm driving down today to spend time with him, try to get him to eat some of his favorite foods, etc.
I really want to thank you for your support and words of encouragement. It means a lot. It could be that we don't have a single solitary thing in common besides our birds, but that seems to be enough to turn strangers into friends.

Well that's encouraging... I can understand wanting to manage your hopes, nonetheless. Hey, our birds are a huge part of our lives, and I think that means we have a lot in common If nothing else, given how incredibly important our own birds are to us, we all can imagine how incredibly difficult this must be for you... I wish we could just make it better.
