You just have to keep going and take it one day at a time. Some animals respond to a little light massage around their mouths/beaks - for some unknown reason, they like to eat afterwards. You could try that. I know how upset you are about this but be happy and bright so Peppy picks up on it. Every day will be a challenge for you so be prepared to try a variety of food to keep him eating. Hand feed him if you have to. Hugs to you and Peppy.

He ate a little better yesterday. I gave him two formula feedings and was going to skip the evening meal, but in spite of digging around in his cooked food his crop felt nearly empty. It was no fluke - he likes that formula. And why not; fat tastes good! We both wind up wearing some of it, and he may have to go through a second weaning, but oh well. I'm hoping he's gained another gram or two. His "good" weight was 133g. From a low of 123g, yesterday he was back up to 126g, but his keel is still alarmingly prominent.

It took a few weeks to fatten Pippin up so don't worry about the sharpness of the keel. At this stage, all you need to worry about is getting him to eat. Keep offering him a variety of food - it's good that he likes the formula. It is a long road back to good health so just keep going - things wont change overnight - it takes time. Try not to overfeed him - he doesn't need to rush to get back to his previous weight. Shah weighs in around 120 grams and believe me, he is not underweight - just probably a small quaker. Keep us posted on Peppy's progress. This sort of thing is very draining so you need some time out as well.

After doing fairly well through most of the weekend, he was visibly getting worse last night. Sneezing violently and often, didn't want to eat, and really stressed when I gave him his meds. He started breathing noisily with his beak open. This morning he wouldn't touch anything, and looked miserable. Took him in this morning and he has a bunch of fluid built up in his abdomen. It's related to the liver disease, but I'm still not sure where the sneezing comes in. She could hear creaking sounds when he breathed. She tried to take some fluid off, but didn't get much. She gave him something to help break things up and I had to leave him there so she can try again later. He may have to stay for a day or two. The house is much emptier without him here.

I know how you feel. When Shah had an overnight stay at the vet I thought I would be able to get his cage cleaned (which I did) and do lots of things. But I really missed him and spent the entire time worrying about him, even though I knew he was in the best place he could be. I hope Peppy improves. It is just so distressing to see them ill. Sending prayers your way - and Peppy's way too. Please let us know how he goes.

Aww, Easttex, I'm so sorry to hear that Peppy is struggling. Poor little guy I can only imagine how hard it must be really hard for you having to leave him at the vet. My nerves would be a wreck if I had to leave Cupcake at the vet overnight. Our whole family will be sending prayers for you and Peppy.

Sorry to hear that you and Peppy are going through that. It sounds like everything will be done at the vet's to get him feeling better. I can imagine how hard it would be to have to leave him for a day or two, but it does seem like the best thing for Peppy just now. Thinking of you both and hoping that Peppy will soon be better.

Thank you all for the support. When I checked in the afternoon, he had eaten a lot of formula. Because of his distress the night before, I didn't give him the Baytril yesterday morning, and she didn't, either. Maybe that is why he started eating again. He's in an incubator, getting oxygen. The vet is hoping the diuretic will take care of the fluids, but will drain them if necessary. I will be calling in later this morning, and I hope to be able to report good things.

Nothing really good to report. He's eating a bit, so I drove over to bring some of the things he usually really likes, and just to visit. He looked really out of it, and wouldn't step up for a while. He did take some scrambled egg. His lungs are making bad noises and the lasix the vet gave him didn't seem to help. The vet has reached the end of her expertise, so she gave me a referral to someone in Houston who I hope can help. Off to see her tomorrow. I think she is the incoming president of the AAV. Peppy appears to be much happier to be home, so I'm glad I brought him here. Probably won't be able to update until the day after tomorrow. Tomorrow's going to be a long day.

Holy crow easttex.... and Peppy. Wow... I am so sad for you both as I can only imagine the stress. I have been away for a couple of weeks and am just catching up now. I truly hope the little guy gets better soon. I will pray for you both.
