Hi Penelope, welcome to you and your baby. There are few Aussies on the forum so it is good to have someone from NZ. You can ask us anything you like - we are a very friendly bunch of quaker slaves.

Howdy Penelope... I am happy you are enjoying the forum. I absolutely love this forum as it has helped me in sooooo many ways.
You mentioned your little fellas favorite foods... I am just wondering... is he eating his pellets? They are so very important to keep him healthy... and I know how easy it is to give them other food because it is fun to watch them enjoy it... but maybe not as healthy.
My little fella Oscar is a fatso... and on a diet... lol... so far so good. He is now enjoying his pellets very much but I still add the fresh fruit and vegetables... washed and peeled. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions or concerns you might have. Happy to have you on board.

Glad to join this forum. We have had Trump (he was named before He started for presidency) for about 2 years now and we think Trump is 4 years old. We had an issue with him about plucking his feathers out so we had to take him to an Aviary Veterinarian. We are here to learn more about quakers, their needs, sociology, etc. so we can give him the best care possible.

Welcome to you and Trump. Even though it's not your parrot who is seeking office, the idea of a QP running for president is intriguing-- it would liven things up in ways even the other Trump couldn't.

Hi all. I'm new to the forum and also a new bird owner. I have a 12 wk old quaker called Kiwi and the whole family have fell in love with her. She has an infectious personality!. If it is OK would it be possible for a little advice from the experts? When i got her she was on a white sunflower mix. I am attempting to wean her off the sunflowers onto pellets, is this too soon, is it possible to get advice on how to do this? Also how much do fellow quaker owners feed them? Thankyou in advance for any advice given.

It's never too soon to get a parrot off a sunflower diet. It's best to do it now, while he's more amenable to change than he will be later. Introducing veggies now would also be an excellent thing to do. This article from the main site should give you some ideas: www.quakerparrots.com/diet/convert-parrots-to-pellets/I prefer Harrison's pellets, but any reputable brand will be better than the seeds.

Welcome! Along with the Harrison's pellets that easttex suggested, some Quakers like ZuPreem Fruit Blend, Roudybush or Higgins InTune pellets. Sometimes it's necessary to experiment with different ones to see which your parrot likes best. Parrots not used to eating pellets often will eat softened ones more readily than dry pellets. Soak some in water or unsweetened fruit juice and offer some to Kiwi once they've softened. Dry pellets can be made available at all times, but the soaked ones shouldn't be left sitting around too long uneaten, to avoid bacterial growth.
