Hello, I have a 19 year old Quaker and we are very attached to each other often by her beak. I "inherited" her from my daughter 19 years ago and probably did everything wrong. She used to be pretty good about responding to "UP" but now she bows her beak to the floor and backs away repeating "up" and making "kissing" noises. She bites me until I get loud and forceful. Not pretty. I think I have a rough road ahead and would love any advice.

I just got my baby on Aug. 28,2015 he's about 8 weeks old still hand feeding him and have tried several different seeds/pellets I don't know if he is actually eating any of that feed. He is a blue QP I am so glad I found this site. I was on here for a few hours yesterday just reading.

Welcome coppers momma.... If you have any questions about your baby... please do not hesitate to ask.
At 8 weeks old he might not be able to crack a seed yet so try to stay with soft foods for a little longer. The pellets can be soaked ahead of time in unsweetened apple juice or perhaps a little cooked macaroni... Watch carefully to ensure he is eating even if it means measuring his intake. Your little one maybe a little nervous in a new home but I am sure he will come around once he realizes there are kind voices around and he gets attention. You will be amazed at how wonderful these little ones can be. Mine has me trained soooooo well... lol.... he sure is a smarty pants.

Hi! I'm excited to meet you all, I have had quakers before, they are awesome birds. It's been a while now and I am finally getting another, a little DEY Female, from a great breeder in Fla. Friendly Birds Aviary. She is about 7 weeks old,.....almost completely weaned,....and I can't wait to meet her! I'd love to post a picture of her here, but I don't see a way to Upload one from my computer, only to put in a link,....don't really want to do that. If you know how to upload a JPEG, let me know! Thanks, Mandy

Greetings and welcome Mandy! Congrats on your new little one, I'm sure that is very exciting! Quakers are fantastic little birds for sure. You are correct that you can't upload a photo directly to the site, but using photobucket is a fairly easy way to get photos on the site. There are instructions in this thread: www.quakerparrotforum.com/thread/31/post-photos

Hola - from Bob in Puerto Rico. Born in Texas - I've been around the world a couple of times, once as a baby and then again with the US Navy. I've had some wonderful experiences with a double headed amazon - amazing talker; an umbrella cockatoo - a rescue bird who was very intelligent in that he could solve many puzzles and also quite a talker as well; a couple of ring necks, and now I have a 10 month old quaker parakeet - who is turning out to be a very good talker as well, and bilingual too.
I'm a graduate of Dr. Susan Friedman's LLA Professional course in animal behavior and love working with owners and training animals. I have trained horses, dogs, and birds for about 30 years now and love the challenge of figuring out how to make the connection with each animal.

Hola y bienvenido! I went around the world in 34 days back in the 80s and have travelled lots too! Sounds like your Quaker is a lucky guy to have found you and have fun being challenged and learning. Looking forward to seeing some pictures and videos of all your training!

Hi Bob & welcome! It sounds like you've had a lot of interesting experiences and I'm sure you can offer many useful insights into our quakers' behaviours. I'd love to see what your opinion is about your quaker's behaviour after he/she reaches adulthood (I mean, compared with other animals you've trained). Have fun on the Forum!

Hi Bob, and welcome! You and I have at least a few things in common. I wasn't born in Texas, but live here now, in the deep east part. I saw a bit of the world with the navy, also, including a couple trips to PR. I also took the course with Dr. Friedman. Learned a whole lot that I am able to apply often. And, of course, I have a Quaker, too. They are special little birds. I hope you'll enjoy the forum!

Hi! My name is Penelope, I own a male Quaker parrot (still thinking of a name) He is 4 months old and was bought only 2 days ago from a breeder in NZ ! So far his favourite foods are Apple, grape, and pumpkin. He has a peach fronted conure 'sister' / best friend who he gets along with very well. Loving the forum so far!
