Hi Everyone,
I have lately been dreaming of adding a new birdy to our family but I have some reservations. I love Normy to absolute pieces and wouldn't want to do anything that would cause him too much stress or make him feel like he isn't loved anymore.
I just wanted to know has anyone else added a different parrot into the home and was it successful? I would obviously house them in different cages, but it would be nice to have them out together for 'play time' eventually...
I have been considering princess parrots as my new addition.
Any feedback is very much appreciated!

I think you guys might be right, I think he was worried that I was going to gobble up all the food and not share any with him... which is a pretty reasonable fear as my mouth is a whole lot bigger than his haha
I tried the suggestion of making Normy his own plate, this has been working really well for us. He still gets to share in the experience of meal times, plus I get a lot more control over what he eats and how much, and he also doesn't feel threatened by us having to eat from the same plate. I do have to say I am slightly missing sharing all our meals together but I do think this is better and a lot less stressful for Norman.
Thank you once again for your help!
Norms has a wonderful 1st hatchday, he had a delicious chia seed and pumpkin cake to celebrate which he LOVED! Food really is the way to this little blue chicken's heart!

Hi Everyone!
I haven't been on the forum in ages! I blame work! Normy and I have been doing really well and this coming Tuesday is Normy's first birthday! Yay!
Norman has been such a wonderful little friend and so far hasn't shown any sign of aggression until... last night we were sharing dinner as always and I went to put my hand up and he launched and sort of grabbed my finger with his beak. It wasn't quite a nip because it didn't hurt but it looked suspiciously like he intended it to be one. It happened again today with lunch... it doesn't hurt but he isn't acting the way he usually does and I don't want this new behaviour to turn into nipping or biting.
So my question is what should I do? When he did this, I just put him on his cage where he squawked but I ignored him and ate without him. Am I doing the right thing? As I am a first time parrot owner, dealing with parrot behaviour management is all new to me haha
Thanks a bunch!

Its finally clicked! Normy is finally able to 'step up'! Yay!! We got there!!
Now whenever I say 'come on' he repeats it back to me and climbs aboard! Of course there is the occasional look of distain, but he always follows through and I can finally say we have mastered 'stepping up'!!!

Hello Everyone,
Norma's jungle vest arrived today and... he got straight in it!! I was ready to start a long to week process of slowly introducing the harness to him and letting him nibble at it and become familiar but instead I put it on the top of his cage and he stood straight on it. I then thought, why not... lets give it a try. I can't say he exactly LOVED getting in it but he let me, not one bite or screech. Once he had it on, he then hopped straight on my shoulder and proceed to try and chew at it! He didn't seem to distressed though so we went for a little adventure outside into the backyard. He just chewed and chatted to me. I then took it off, after about fifteen minutes with it on. He seemed quite relieved to have it off but not to bad. I think it went really well! Lets see if he lets me put it on him again tomorrow... he is more clued in now to what it is so it may be more difficult!!
Wish me luck!

Hi, I have decided to buy a jungle vest from www.diapersforbirds.com. Its going to take three weeks to ship here and then the real battle will begin of trying to convince Normy into it!! Wish me luck!

Hi everyone,
I would love to get a harness for Normy, he is 6 months old today and would like to start the training while he is still young. Can anyone recommend a certain brand or style? I don't mind the cost, I just want to buy a safe one.
Thanks!!

I am also a teacher and brought Normy home with me during our holidays so he was used to me being home ALOT. When the term started again though and I had to leave, he was very cranky at me and I felt so guilty!!
He now knows the routine, 5 days of work and then 2 days of constant cuddles and generally being spoilt rotten.
When I'm out I leave the tv on for him - he likes watching the cooking channel (nothing too scary happens on there) and I make sure he has plenty or foraging toys and bells to rattle. He also likes to have a seed block at a treat if I know I'm going to be out for a LONG day.

It is so awesome to hear them laugh, I love it when Normy laughs... it sometimes even feels like he does it in context haha
Normy has a great witch laugh too, which has slowly started to make me paranoid, I am starting to worry thats what my laugh sounds like... hehe

Thanks everyone for your advice. I have great news... Normy is finally starting to step up!! Yay! He is even saying the words 'come on' which I say instead of 'step up'. He is still a little stubborn and likes to step up when he feels like it, but I now know that he knows what 'come on' means and he usually does it after a little minute or so of deciding whether he will listen to me or not haha
He turned 6 months old today and is already so much more confident and adventurous than when I first brought him home. He is now all over me and we have such a great trusting relationship. He is also eating so much better (he was a VERY stubborn seed eater when I first got him) he now LOVES his veggies, especially sugar snap peas and broccoli but will eat a huge range... basically whatever veggies we have in the house that he is allowed to have. He still isn't keen on pellets and when I say not keen I mean not eating them very often or at all, but I feel like we are making such great progress with his diet that now he is eating a huge variety of veggies and fruit along with some seed, we can keep trying with the pellets but it isn't the most important thing.
He is also talking and saying new words almost everyday, some I can't quite understand but he has certainly mastered I love you, hello, come on, what ya doing?, night night, woohoo, Normy (so cute when he says his name) and dinner time.
He really is so lovely and I love watching him learn new things!

My Normy does this too. He says hello, come on, bye bye, I love you, woohoo, good boy and makes quacking sounds and kisses. He says all these things in a sounding out kind of way, whenever he does this I go over and say the word he is saying and he repeats it. Slowly he becomes clearer! Its so exciting listening to him saying new words!!

Thanks everyone for your help. Unfortunately where I live there isn't an avian vet anywhere nearby so it great to get all your opinions!
