Oh I am so sorry to read this, I feel sick thinking about it. You have given Norman and I some great advice. I hope everything works out ok, I will be thinking of you both tonight.

That's good to know. I was a bit worried he was trying to be dominant but he isn't acting that way at all upon reflection. He is so funny trying to preen my hair, I now have to be super careful what hair products I use! I am so happy to have Norman in my family

Hi Everyone,
Norman and I are getting along so well. He is such a gentle and sweet little birdy and we are starting to build a really trusting relationship.
He has started sitting on my head a lot though! He likes to sit on his cage and on my shoulder and we are starting to do 'step up' training, but he just loves to sit on my head and preen my hair haha is this normal? Ha ha

Hi Everyone, Since last I posted, Norman and I have made great progress. He is now trusting me so much more and is becoming more comfortable sitting on my hand or arm or even my head haha I have been reading though that he should be bathing weekly and so far he hasn't been doing this. I have only had Norman for two weeks so I don't want to ruin any of our new found trust but I'm wondering how to best bathe him... Should I just provide him with a shallow bowl of water and hope he washes himself, should I be training him to wash in the sink or shower and if so how should I start doing this? Norman is a cautious little bird and I don't want to scare him and undo any of the progress we have made together. Any advice would be great! Thank you

Hi Hannah, I am a new Quaker mummy as well, my Norman wouldn't eat for a while at first too but he is now loving his seed, I am trying to transition him to pellet but it's a VERY slow process and veggies! This forum has been great, everyone is more than happy to help

Thanks everyone. I am still trying to transition Norman, we are having some small success but it's a slow process. I tried just putting some dry ones in over night and in the morning he was starving so he obviously hadn't eaten any! He he is loving his cooked veggies though, he doesn't seem to like them fresh either, probably too crunchy!! His is favourites so far are corn, pea and carrot. There is also broccoli and red pepper in there but he hasn't tried them yet. I will ill try and tempt him with some pellet tonight, I'll give them a try haha I'll let you know what they taste like

I have actually ordered a gram scale on eBay last night! Thanks for all the tips, I have been feeling his bone and k think it feels ok, maybe a bit skinny but he is still a baby and is still growing I think. I wouldn't have thought of doing the weighing the same time each week, first thing in the morning sounds like a good idea

Thank you! I started the tradition today and found that article helpful. I mixed half and half, pellets with seeds with warm water. Norman mostly picked out mostly just the sunflower seeds which I thought would happen but I did see some of the sticky pellets that were stuck to the seeds sneak their way into his mouth. Yay!

So I have started the transition from seeds to pellets, I mixed equal parts together with warm water and put it in Norman's cage... and it was sort of a success...
He still picked out all of the sunflower seeds, but that was to be expected but I did see some of the squishy pellets that were stuck to the sunflower seeds do into his mouth! Yay!
I will now slowly start to reduce the amount of seed. Wish me luck and thank you again for all your advice.

Thanks everyone, I went to the petshop yesterday and bought a cosy happy hut for my Norman. It is bright purple and very cute. He doesn't seem to keen yet, but it has only been in his cage for a day and Norman is a bit of chicken so it usually takes him a couple of days to get used to anything new. I'm sure he will love it once he tries it out.

Thanks for all that information everyone! I went to the petshop and bought a parrot/peachface seed mix and some mini parrot pellets. I also cooked up some diced carrots, peas, corns and broccoli and red capsicum. My Norman only seems to want to eat the peas and corn and also some seeds. He doesn't touch the pellets. The man at the petshop said I will need to ween Norman from seed onto the pellets... Just wanted to see if anyone else has done this, and how they did it and how it went? Thanks

Hi Everyone,
I am a new bird parent and so am still learning the ropes. My new 3 month old Norman has started to adore 'scratchies' and asks for them almost constantly. I have noticed however that when I will be scratching him he kind of 'mouths' me, like my doggie Bonnie would do.
His is doing tiny little nips, they don't hurt at all and are super light but then stops and wants more. He doesn't move away or look stressed in any way...
Is this normal?
Thanks,
Holly

Thank you for all that information. So I went to the petshop and bought a parrot/peachface mix and mini parrot pellet and then also cooked up some diced carrot, peas, carrot and red capsicum.
After everything that I have read I thought I would just put the pellets and some of the veggie mix I made in. Norman picked through and only ate a few corns and peas and no pellets!
The man at the petshop said I would need to ween Norman off the seeds and onto the pellets...
Soo my new question is - Has anyone had any experience with this and how did they do it?
Thanks again for your continued support!
P.S Norman and I are going really well, he loves having my hand in the cage and is regularly 'requesting' more scratchies and attention. He is such a loving little birdie! We haven't ventured outside of his cage yet, I just want to leave it a couple more days, just so we have a trusting relationship before we add in all the added distractions.
