ha ha ha.... No... they are not normally quiet sedentary birds at all... quite the opposite. Once your little one settles in she will be all over the place and talking like no tomorrow. It takes time and it is good you are letting her get adjusted. Just talk to her quietly or sing a song. They enjoy seeing what is going on so hopefully she is some where close to the action of the house.
Welcome and please feel free to ask any questions that you like. There are some very educated QP owners on this site who are happy to help.

This storm is all over the news here too... You guys are in for one heck of a snow fall. What will you do without power? Do you have a generator? Somehow you need to keep warm. I hope things work out for you. Best of Luck.

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss Dani. Life can be so unfair sometimes. (((((HUGS)))) I think the nicest advice I had received and I will pass to you... give yourself all the time in the world to mourn for your loss. There is no deadline in healing. I will say a prayer for you and your Dad.
Take care.

I have got more "bird shirts" than clothes I can wear outside the house... lol. They are so fast at making a hole that you may not even know it is there. I constantly have to check my clothes before leaving the house... any holes??? any poop??? I don't think I would make much of an impression sitting in the lawyer or doctors office with Oscar clothes on.. lol

(Maya will still never be subjected to the evils of country music. ) 'You will not listen to that filth under my roof!' Oh boy.... those are fighting words... (just kidding). You know what you get when you play country music backwards? You get your house back... your car back... your dog back... lol

I must agree with Jan. They are very quick to change the rules and I tried many times to get Oscar to leave my jewellery alone but now I have a box full of broken earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. He has his own jewellery but of course he prefers mine. It is sweet in the mornings though when I give him my ring and his will sit on my finger and nibble on that ring for 45 minutes. Keeps him quiet and busy.

Welcome to the forum. Quakers are totally different than parakeets as you will notice by some of the posts on here. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask as the folks on here are very familiar with Quakers and will give you some excellent advice.

I am thinking that your quaker used the house because it was comfy but Pink... is not a color that My QP will tolerate well. If you really want a hut... I would try another color.

My hubby wanted Oscar to bond with me since he knew I would be major care giver. So when Oscar came here only I would handle him for the first week.... after that when my husband tried to hold him... Oscar would say NO. Now my husband wishes he could hold Oscar more often and play with him the way I can. Oh well... you can't have everything.

Anybody have any thoughts on leaving music on for birds when you're out of the house?
I usually leave the radio on playing quietly. Rock. I don't think country is appropriate.
I have no idea whether it's appreciated or not. (The music not the genre.) What do you mean ... you don't think country is appropriate?? Holy moly..... all music is wonderful music. Oscar is not fond of any musical instruments being played in the house and will scream until it stops.
He prefers the TV just like his mom... lol

I have something to recommend since your little one is a baby and you will be learning a lot of his signing. Listen carefully for his language and try to repeat it as well. I have found that I get better results when I speak "parrot" instead of asking the parrot to speak "human". A few that I know are ...the danger call... which I use if he is in a bad situation.... the comfort call... purring... the loud calls that come in many tones... some are "come here" some are "thank you"etc. Each call (you will notice) is slightly different. Try your best to learn their language as well as they learn ours.
Oscar has a nice little call when he wants me to pass him a tie-wrap of a piece of cardboard for his house. (slave driver)

Ditto here. And you will also notice the shaking of the head. That means NO. She is very beautiful and I think she will come along very well.
