Oscar would love to throw his bowls down to the ground as well until I found a heavy ceramic one at a pet store. He cannot throw that one but I do not use it very often. I just use the same two bowls every day. I wash them and replace them. They are the stainless steel bowls that come with the cage.

Welcome …. it sounds like your Quaker is quite normal for being rescued. It takes a lot of patience to make them feel comfy and safe. My Oscar hops a little but not much... he mostly climbs around... but he is clipped so that makes a difference as well.
Talk softly to your little guy... get him used to his surroundings and schedule. They all seem to adjust well to your schedule... as long as you have a few hours a day to give them full attention … they sure are loveable little guys.
Read some of the posts on here and I am sure you will learn a lot... as well... please do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have. We are always happy to share our stories.

I am not sure if I could get used to that much warmth... I am born and live in the North all my life. I enjoy spring and summer but I would definitely miss fall and winter. Wow 31C in the winter time... unreal.... When it gets that warm here.. I run inside for the air conditioning. lol My toes are never cold... lol

Congratulations on your new little one and you are in for quite a ride... lol... Many things will make you worry and many things will make you laugh. Any questions you have... do not hesitate to ask... we are here to help. Has she started screaming when you leave the room yet?? well... she will... and the only way I have found to quiet my Quaker up when I leave... is to whistle back to let him know I am okay. They are flock birds and always call out to their flock to make sure all is well.
Have fun with your baby.

Yes Oscar does bite my hubby but I have gotten a few nasty bites myself... with blood and all. Usually it is because I am carrying something in my left hand while he is on my left shoulder... I am NOT allowed to do that... lol.
Every morning when I have breakfast I carry my little plate in my left hand and my glass of milk in my right hand. I will lean into the cage and Oscar will jump on my left shoulder. The other day... I had the plate in my right hand and not my left. Oscar refused to get on my shoulder until I switched the plate around. It was either that or I would have gotten a nasty bite or screamed at... lol

Oscar is toilet trained to poop on paper and not on me. You must remember that he doesn't fly so it was a little easier for me to train him. However... in the mornings when he sits of my belly with my left hand cupped around him... he will hold it in for up to 40 minutes. He is really comfy and knows not to poop on me... so they can hold in it when they want to. He loves the rocking motion of my breathing.

Welcome Layne and Quigley... you are on the right track with veggies and fruits. My Oscar loves green peas, romaine lettuce, carrots, small boiled pieces of cabbage... but you will find out soon enough what yours likes. Oscar just helps himself off my plate at meal time and in-between he nibbles on a few seeds but mostly pellets.
If you haven't already be sure to read the list of dangerous foods on here. Some foods can make them sick and some can actually kill them. Be safe.
Good luck.

Hello love birdies... lol. Your little one sounds adorable. I wish Oscar would talk more freely but I guess it is just not meant to be. Every day I laugh at him and sing to him... so with a pet like that … who needs more eh?? not me.
Looking forward to reading your stories... and please feel free to ask any questions you might have... we are here to help one another.

Welcome to the forum. I hope things work out for you with your two little ones. It is very kind of you to rehome them and I am sure they will adjust in time. One thing with Quakers... is that you must have a lot of patience. They really need to think things through before they respond.
Best wishes.

frugaldiva... Oscar is exactly the same way... afraid of so many things... I do like you and hold my hand close to his body... he also loves to walk around outside... when he has had enough... he will crawl up onto my toes... and that means pick me up. so cute that they are so similar.

That is not good Scooter... like I suggested... try another avian vet. Bird Bills are something they should be extremely familiar with... that is my opinion.

Dinucci is correct and there are many places on a Quaker that should not be petted... but I am a dummy and I pet Oscar everywhere... the look on his face is priceless and other than being extremely close to me... I have not seen any other ill effects. He still loves his white plastic cup to do "his duty" on... lol lol... so that is under control. I will tell you... Oscar rules this house... and me... and he is one very happy little guy.
