Thank you for your replies:)
I do feel a little silly now. I either read bad info or didn't read it properly. Doh:( I shall get some pellets on my next payday. He is eating some veg. Earlier he had broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and some green peas. And seed mix.
I will sort him out with some quality pellets as soon as can and I will read through the converting link you have given me.
Thanks again Rick :-)

Hello all,
I was reading into seed diet for my quaker and read that they are too fatty and that sunflower seeds can carry a fungus that isn't hood for your bird. I thought that seeds+the daily fruit/veg I was giving him was good. (Note that he prefers the seeds over fruit and veg).
Should I buy some quality pellet food and more him to that?
Thank you:)

Yay. He steps up now I put my finger above his feet and he happily steps up. I must have had my finger too high or something?
Also after him being out today when I put him back in his cage he was grinding his beak making this awful screeching noise for like 15 mins.(similar noise to us grinding our teeth together) First time I've heard him do that. Not the most pleasant of noises but he we straight to sleep when lights out.
Thanks for all the all replies and advice on my post people.

Evening :-) Does anyone have any tips on step up? Kiki refuses to step up. Food doesn't tempt him. I have tried with fingers both in front and like a gentle sweep from behind his legs and no reaction. Sometimes he will start to raise one foot by reaction but twill cling to whatever he is standing on with the other foot. If I put my hand inside his cage he does not like it. Its even harder to do from his cage as he doesn't seem to like me poking around his place. He seems to be a lot tamer outside his cage. I've had him only a week now. There is no rush for him to do these things or speak but I just want to know if I am doing it right. He hasn't picked up or said any words so far either. Sometimes when I talk to him I hear a gentle quake noise/purr but that's about it. Rick

Thanks for your reply. Yeah he liked the cereal but I have no idea how sugary or what else is in it. Its like grain hoops with added vitamins etc. Oooo pasta didn't know they can eat that.
Never heard of snap peas. Probably a different word for something else we have:)
I will grab some whole grain pasta tomorrow for sure.

Evening all,
I'm looking for the ultimate bribery foods to aid my taming of Kiki. I've tried the follow in with varying results;
Millet, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, fresh banana(he likes quite a bit), cucumber, rocket leaves, dried banana, peanut, a UK cereal which is similar to captain crunch.
So yeah fresh banana has been most successful. Shopping day is tomorrow so looking for awesome bribe food:)
Thanks in advance Rick

Hope you can see my pics. I'm working from a tablet He has tried I think for the first time banana, rocket, cucumber, a single Bran flake which he loved but I think its too sugary. And his favorite so far a little boiled egg. White and yellow parts with yellow being his favorite I believe. I have lots of free time at home with him. How long should/can I let him out of his cage? He has been out for about 3 hours now and as far as I can tell he is happy out. And seems to be loving attention from my young daughters. I can sometimes get one leg on STEPUP he he. Half way there yay:) Oh and he saw a wound/graze I had previously on my knuckle and decided to have a gentle peck maybe thinking it was food? Anyway ouchy

Hey Cnyguy thanks for your reply:) I have named him Kiki. I actually named him after a quaker I saw on YouTube that inspired me into choosing this type of parrot. As I was unsure which parrot I wanted. It was between a Quaker and an Indian Ringneck. Apparently the name 'Yoda' is too nerdy - my wife He bite me on day 1 who drew blood and made my skin swell up area the bite. The nibble bites he gives now while I stroke him do not barely hurt at all. They are more clumsy than a direct attack. I gently hold his beak with my finger tips and he nibbles them. I like to think he likes it. Does anyone else do this? Thanks Rick

Greetings all, I am Rick and I got my new Quaker companion 3 days ago. He is a beautiful green 6 month old (presumed) boy. My little friend came from a young man who had to give him up due to real life commitments who had passed the bird onto his family to resell. He was sold as 'very timid'. I have lots of time and patience so him being timid did not put me off me getting him. I have set him up in my main room close to me. I left him to settle for the day. Day 2 he escaped his cage and flew into many walls and objects while I was changing his water act. He did not injure himself but it was definitely a wake up call to birdy proof my place better. I also looked into wing clipping as I lost a cockatiel around 10 years ago due to a flying accident:( After much reading and tutorial videos and reading pros and cons I carefully clipped the tips. Overall it was a very easy and successful to do. He was very calm under a towel. Day 3( today) he is a completely different bird. Nothing but affection. He let's me stroke anywhere on him. I can almost check his wings but he is a bit nervous on that. Hand feed and he is happy to sit in my hands cupped and walk on my chest and shoulder s. I can't seem to get him to step up yet though. He just looks at me like 'eerm what you doing?'. He let's me, my wife and my two young daughter stroke him. He does these little nibbles(gentle biting) when I stroke his beak. Is this him playing or am I making him mad? Also day 1 he was making very loud ear piercing screeches but day 3 he hasn't made any. Could this have been fear noises and has chilled out a bit now? He likes to take short naps in the day. Is this normal? I do not wake him when he naps. He is eating, pooping and drinking fine. Sometimes rattles his toys. Its pretty late here now. Thanks for reading my wall of text Rick
