Well, I did it! I got a budgie!
Yesterday Zach and I were price checking all of our animals' food and necessities because the two stores where we used to shop both were destroyed by fires in the last 5 months. Hohl Feed and Seed was set on fire accidentally by a transient who was trying to get warm during a cold snap. Clark's Feed and Seed caught fire a week ago. The two stores were next door to each other. So, we had to find which stores sell what, and where we can get the best prices.
Yesterday we were at Petco and Zach kind of fell in love with a pure white dark-eyed budgie. We had a bunch of other places to go, so we didn't buy her. We also really prefer males over females.
Today we went to Petsmart to say hi to a friend who works there, and I couldn't help looking at the budgies. They're all males, and three were absolutely gorgeous. One was powder blue and white with light gray banding. One was pastel green and yellow. He was really beautiful. The one we brought home is light yellow with dark gray banding on his back and upper wings. His primary feathers are light yellow.
We brought him home and I wanted to clip his wings, but he got out of my hands and got really stressed flying around our office while Zach and I tried to catch him. Finally Zach grabbed him and I put him in his cage to relax. I'll try again tomorrow or Friday. 😊

To answer your questions, I think for your peace of mind you should contact the breeder in writing and tell her your vet is going to do a DNA test and you'll be sending her the bill.
If it's a female you can take extra precautions, or return her to the breeder.
I wish you the best of luck!

Oh, wow. That's truly horrible, and if the breeder has a Facebook page I hope you leave a negative review.
Lying about test results of any kind is not okay. It makes me wonder what else she might be lying about. In addition, she stole your $35.
I'm so sorry this happened to you, and I really hope you have a male.

Clover is a bird of the same species that I found on YouTube. He's not the bird that's for sale. 😊
No, I didn't bring the baby home. Our inn really is full.
I know, Brotogeris were fairly popular when I first got into parrot keeping, but now they seem to be more rare.
Their description makes them sound like sweet Parrotlets (Parrotlets have a reputation for being temperamental...Pico did not live up to that reputation...LOL).

Okay. So, my hubby and I are already owned by a large multi-species flock of animals. We can't responsibly take any more. Okay, there's also the tiny little issue of the bird being at Petsmart. I don't buy pets from most pet stores.
BUT I WANT IT!!!!!
"It" is a baby Bee Bee Parrot, aka Canary Winged Parakeet. They're happy little parrots in the Brotogeris family.

I got permission to post from Spiggy's mama. Jen isn't active here anymore, but she was a regular for a long time.
It is with a heavy heart that I write of Spiggy's passing. Spiggy was Jen's baby and received the very best. I don't know exactly how old he was, but around 20 years old, I think.
Spiggy vomited on the 18th, and despite her best care he continued to decline and passed away on the 23rd.
My heart hurts for her. She loved him so much.
Fly free, Spiggy. 🐦🌈

Hi biteybird! I haven't been around much, either, so don't feel bad. 😊
It's great to see you!

Hi Gary!
Things have been pretty sad around here. Zach and I made the decision to euthanize our little handicapped budgie, who we had for three years. She developed a respiratory problem that medications didn't help, and she was ready, anyway.
The next step after medicating was a different type of x-ray where she would have to be put under general anesthesia which she might not survive.
Since we were talking about euthanasia anyway, we decided to go ahead with the x-ray. Well, the night before her appointment we decided to just let her go, which was a good thing because she passed away peacefully during the x-ray. Afterward the doctor gave her the euthanasia medication just to be sure.
We haven't gotten the results yet.
In other news, along the same lines, my vet asked me if I would be interested in taking in another budgie she's caring for...this is one she made the owner sign over to her because the owner neglected two fairly good sized tumors on her wing, and brought her in for euthanasia. The owner didn't want to pay for surgery to fix an otherwise healthy bird, so the vet took the bird. And offered her to me. I'm pretty flattered, actually! I don't know if we're going to take her, though. We're trying to downsize our multi species flock. LOL
Bilbo got his checkup and might have Cushing's disease (my horse has it too). His vet should be calling us today to go over the results of his blood work.
Porkchop, my Guinea pig, had a tumor removed from his back a few months ago and is happy as a clam, going strong.
Taz, Chewy and Diablo are all doing wonderful!
Zach and I are doing great, this August we'll celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary. 😊 I'm working on getting a jewelry business up and running.
Ummm.....I think that about covers everything! LOL
