I honestly don't think so...he's on a seed based diet, because pellets cause kidney/liver problems in mutation Pacific Parrotlets, and gets frozen veggies and greens (mustard greens and kale). His blood work was normal, so I don't know.

I imagine that we'll have more of those episodes in the future, but we'll take care of him, whatever comes. He is very loved.

Pico is still acting pretty normal, as normal goes, for him. I have no clue what happened.

I don't have a clue how he made it through last night. I really thought we were going to lose him. I'm so thankful that he is such a tough little bird.

Hi! I've personally never raised a baby, but I've been around them. Baby Quakers are quite clumsy. I would put one or two perches In the box so he can practice perching, then once he's closer to fully feathered you can set a cage up with the perches positioned down low. Line the cage bottom/grate with a soft towel. As he gets more coordinated you can move the perches up and then remove the towel. When he takes his first flight, he might crash land. Make sure he has a soft spot to crash; if they do fall onto a hard surface they could crack their keel bone or beak, or the skin over the keel bone could split open. I'm not trying to freak you out, just to let you know what can happen. If his first flights will be in the kitchen, lay blankets on the floor. Good luck!!

I did get 4 hours of sleep. I'm very concerned, because Pico doesn't like his closed in happy hut but I put him in it to help him stay warm. He immediately fell asleep and hasn't moved, only shifting his position sometimes. We'll see.

It's 5am now. At midnight we really thought he was going to die. I have no clue what happened.
I do think he has a neurological disorder of some kind. Poor baby.

Well...I'm incredibly happy...and baffled. Pico is still here, and is stronger. Currently he's laying on my chest, but he was snuggled under my neck on my pillow for awhile. Then I had to use the bathroom so I put him on the blanket and folded it over him. I came back and he was standing up, looking out. That was amazing to see. He went back to sleep so I left him there. When he woke up, I made a nest in the heating pad and he immediately tucked his head under his wing and went back to sleep. He woke up again, really wobbly, so I picked him up and he's cuddled on my chest. We may rethink the euthanasia... We'll see what happens.

Zach has to get to bed, but I'm staying up with him. If he's still hanging on in the morning, we'll have him put down.

Pico is still breathing, but finally closed his eyes after about 10 minutes of keeping them open.
In the last couple of minutes he has opened them halfway and closed them again.
I read him the story of the Rainbow Bridge, and sang "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" to him.

I think Pico is on his "death bed". He's laying on Zach's stomach, with his feet clenched, and breathing very hard.
He regurgitated some white mucus a few minutes ago, and has been very limp.
We're trying to keep him comfortable as we say goodbye.

Pico is hanging out on my shoulder and I momentarily forgot about his vision impairment. I reached up to pick him up without warning him first and gave him a terrible scare. He started "crying"...making a horrible screeching sound. It took a few minutes to calm him down.
He's fine, but I felt horrible!

Thank you so much for sharing! I watch the BBC shows like Planet Earth, and such...there was one that showed a group of baby penguins that got separated from the adults. I was screaming at the TV "Save them, idiots! They're right THERE! Scoop them up and get them back with their families!" LOL Of course, that didn't happen. Poor babies.
