Pico is hanging out on my shoulder and I momentarily forgot about his vision impairment. I reached up to pick him up without warning him first and gave him a terrible scare. He started "crying"...making a horrible screeching sound. It took a few minutes to calm him down.
He's fine, but I felt horrible!

Poop little guy! You want to protect them from everything, but life just intervenes. I'm glad he was scared and not hurt.

You are a mean thing Dani. Only kidding - we sometimes forget we have freeloaders. I occasionally slip up with Shah and go outside and he is sitting on my shoulder. If my brain isnt engaged, I have accidentally put him in Pippin and Spike's cage more than once when I am putting them to bed at night. The little demon remains very quiet and then something snaps in my brain and I pull him out again. He is abusive towards me when I remove him. He is just waiting for the day when I walk away and leave him there - I wont have any cockatiels left if that happens

I think Pico is on his "death bed". He's laying on Zach's stomach, with his feet clenched, and breathing very hard.
He regurgitated some white mucus a few minutes ago, and has been very limp.
We're trying to keep him comfortable as we say goodbye.

Pico is still breathing, but finally closed his eyes after about 10 minutes of keeping them open.
In the last couple of minutes he has opened them halfway and closed them again.
I read him the story of the Rainbow Bridge, and sang "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" to him.

Zach has to get to bed, but I'm staying up with him. If he's still hanging on in the morning, we'll have him put down.

Oh Dani, that's horrible. Hugs to you and Pico. I will say a little prayer for you both tonight.

Well...I'm incredibly happy...and baffled. Pico is still here, and is stronger. Currently he's laying on my chest, but he was snuggled under my neck on my pillow for awhile. Then I had to use the bathroom so I put him on the blanket and folded it over him. I came back and he was standing up, looking out. That was amazing to see. He went back to sleep so I left him there. When he woke up, I made a nest in the heating pad and he immediately tucked his head under his wing and went back to sleep. He woke up again, really wobbly, so I picked him up and he's cuddled on my chest. We may rethink the euthanasia... We'll see what happens.

It's 5am now. At midnight we really thought he was going to die. I have no clue what happened.
I do think he has a neurological disorder of some kind. Poor baby.

Oh poor little Pico I'm very happy to hear that he is still with you, but that sounds really scary and unpleasant for the little guy. I wonder what the issue is... I'm glad you guys were there to help him and he didn't go through that alone... Phew, tough stuff..

I hope you are getting some sleep now, Dani, but I am anxiously awaiting your next post. I really, really hope he continues to improve.

I did get 4 hours of sleep. I'm very concerned, because Pico doesn't like his closed in happy hut but I put him in it to help him stay warm. He immediately fell asleep and hasn't moved, only shifting his position sometimes. We'll see.
