Good luck with the vet appointment. Let us know how he goes.

I definitely will. I don't think we'll find out anything new, but I just want her to know about this last episode.

My dear, sweet, wonderful vet didn't charge for the appointment today because she wants Pico to see a specialist. She gave me the names of several, and I'll be calling later this afternoon after Zach gets home from work.
She's completely stumped.

Wednesday at noon we'll be making the 2 1/2 hour drive to see the specialist. Fingers crossed.....

It's SO funny....I spent much of my childhood in the car, going back and forth from the Bellingham area to Seattle to see various specialists....I never imagined that as an adult I'd be doing the same thing for one of my birds!

I hope they can shed some light on this. What kind of a specialist are you seeing?

My vet isn't board certified, and this vet is. Dr. Bangert says that all they (specialists) see is birds, so she may have seen Pico's symptoms/condition before.
My vet is an avian vet, she's had education in avian medicine, but isn't board certified and she also sees dogs and cats.

Same situation with my vet. She's a member of AAV, has birds herself, and sees a number of them, but isn't certified avian. She said she does it because she's interested in birds, and realizes the options are few and far between, but in a market of the size she is in (Shreveport, LA) she could never make a living just seeing birds. And she can't afford some of the equipment. I'd have to go to Houston or Dallas if it got real complex. I often wish I could be treated by a vet. They just seem to have so much compassion, not to mention time, for their patients.

However, it is cheaper for me to go to the doctor than to take my animals to the vet

It costs me more to have a bird x-ray than it does to have an x-ray for myself. Honest!
