Easttex, could you puree the veggies and hide them inside the cheesy scrambled egg? Or would he be 'a wake up' to it?

Have you tried sprouts? Cupcake LOVES lentil sprouts. I don't know how I would keep her on a healthy diet without them. She is pretty picky when it comes to veggies.

I've grown some mixed sprouts, but haven't had any luck so far with either of my birds. I haven't puréed veggies, but you gave me an idea, biteybird. If I leave chunks of veggies in anything, he eats around them. But maybe I can purée some and replace most of the water I use in his bird bread. Undoubtedly not as good as eating them fresh, but probably better than the status quo. I'll try that next time I make a batch. I'm afraid if I put them in his eggs the color change would put him on his guard.

Interesting.. Well, for whatever it is worth, Cupcake is extremely particular about which sprouts she eats. Pea sprouts, or the larger red lentil sprouts are completely out of the question. But smaller lentil sprouts are her favorite.

Peppy had an exam and X-ray yesterday. The edema is gone, but he has something called a xanthoma on his belly, which explains the yellow, thickened skin there. Because of where it is and the diffusion, it can't be removed, but probably is not a big worry at this point. The internal mass is smaller, but still quite large. It may never go away completely because of scar tissue. I hope it will get smaller than it is, because while you can see the difference in his lung capacity, the granuloma is still taking up an awful lot of space. Since the edema is gone I can drop one med and put him back on the metacam, which hopefully will reduce the inflammation further. Back for another X-ray in two to four weeks.
He is so good there. Steps up for everyone and doesn't bite or scream. I was afraid he might get nippy once he was feeling better, but he hasn't. At the same time, he makes it very clear that all he wants is to get back to my neck, where I can feel him pushing to get as close as he can. It's really affecting.
Interestingly, he perks up now when I turn onto the road where we live. He can't see much from where he sits, but I suspect he knows the change from open road to driving under a canopy of trees.

Easttex that is great news. It has been a long road and you are not at the end of it yet. But you are getting there. The things we go through for our fids Thank goodness Peppy has such a special mom.

Wow, great news! So glad to hear of these improvements. What a brave and sweet little boy (and so well behaved too!). You've really done a great job here, Easttex. I agree with Jan, Peppy has a very special mom Cupcake knows when we get close to home too. She especially knows once we enter the parking garage at our apartment building that it means we are almost home. She often starts chirping happily

It makes things a little easier when you're not worried about leaving a legacy for your children.

Glad that Peppy is improving. Ralph hasn't seemed to have caught on to when the car is approaching our apartment building, but George the YCA used to know when we were nearing home, or getting close to the veterinary hospital. His reaction to the latter was quite different from the happiness he showed when he knew he was almost home.

I always sing "Going Home" to Shah when we are getting close to home - it goes "Going home, going home, Sharni's going home, where Pippin and Spikey are waiting for him, Sharni's going home". He enjoys it and I have to sing it twice so I meet with quaker approval.

I must be honest because many times when I see an update of Peppy I get scared and get a pit in my stomach. I am so relieved to hear good news... good job Mom!!!!
It sure is true about them knowing when we get closer to home. Oscar can tell about 1 block away... only cause the street is still filled with orange cones and road work... lol First he screams at the cones... then starts running around in a circle on my finger as we approach our yard.

I know that feeling well, Julianna. When I see an update on a sick animal or get an email with just a name in the subject line I brace myself for the worst.
Peppy had a bath today, and I just finished giving him some formula. I don't know if he loves it so much, or if he's really that hungry in the evening, but I filled up a 10 mil syringe, past capacity, and he ate to the last push of the plunger. His crop is out to t h e r e! Formula might be easier for his system to handle right now, and he can use the calories. He doesn't seem to be eating much of some of the things that were his favorites.

He obviously feels he can cope with the formula in preference to his favourite things. He may change what his favourite things are. One day Shah loves corn and then wont eat it for a period of time. Same with peas - some days he loves them, then goes for a couple of weeks not eating them. I agree with Julianna, when I see the posts for Peppy I get a sinking feeling in my stomach. Peppy is a survivor - there is no doubt about that and the fact that he is improving is great news.

I have to be honest, too.
I'm so happy to see that Peppy is doing better.
It's kind of bittersweet, though. I wish Pico had been as strong as Peppy. I miss him.

I can understand that feeling, too, Dani. Twenty years ago, I lost my younger sister to cancer. At her funeral, several people, probably for lack of knowing what to say, decided to tell me stories about one relative or another who had beaten cancer. I really wanted to make happy noises for them, but the timing was just awful. It made me more than a little envious.
I miss your Pico updates. You got some great photos of him. Talk about a sweet pea of a bird.
