I don't expect to hear anything on the blood work before Wednesday, and who knows what that will show, but Peppy seems more himself today than he has in a long time. Nagging, yelling, and chastising me most of the day. It's a lovely sound when you think you might not get to hear it again.

It does sound like he is continuing to improve. It is wonderful that he is chastising and yelling at you. Must seem like music to your ears. It has been such a long time since he first got ill but he seems to be a very determined little quaker and hopefully the blood test will show up the problems and they can be fixed. I cant imagine how you must be feeling but the words "strung out" and "emotionally exhausted" spring to mind. Shah continues to be very interested in Peppy's progress - which continues to freak me out.

It does seem like a good sign that Peppy is more his usual self. Get-well wishes continue going out to Peppy.

Got the blood test results, and once again, the hoped for clarity is elusive. His liver function is still impaired. In fact, it looks a little worse. His white cells are up, too, though he's been on an antibiotic. I don't think anyone really knows what to make of it. He still seems to feel pretty well. I'm going to take him back in next week for a physical exam. If the granuloma seems to be shrinking further, we'll stay the course on his meds, and if not, well, I'm not sure. He's down to four of them now. Milk thistle for his liver, an antibiotic, an antifungal, and something to improve his vascular function. He's not quite as docile about taking them as he was for a little while, but he's still being pretty good about it.

It must be so annoying to have nothing definite show up. You must be emotionally exhausted. My heart goes out to you.

Thanks, Jan. I think what makes the situation more tolerable is that he is so obviously feeling better. He doesn't want to snuggle as much as he did, and I kind of miss that, but will gladly trade it for his health.

Gosh, that's so frustrating. It's great that he is feeling better, but it still must drive you crazy to not have a clearer direction. Sheesh.

How's Peppy going? I think about the both of you quite often. Hang in there Easttex - Peppy is so lucky to have you as a parront.

He seems to be doing pretty well. He's back into bathing and grooming and he's eating his regular diet, plus cheesy scrambled egg, but I don't think he's eating enough to put much weight back on. It's impossible to tell, though, just from the scale. If his weight is the same, it might be a gain because his mass is shrinking. His keel doesn't feel much different to me. The vet will examine him on Monday and I think she'll be able to tell better. Although, she did tell me that they all had a hard time being objective in his case because they were quite taken with him and so want him to do better. Nice to know.

There is a lady in South Africa who runs a rescue centre for birds - it is called Brainy Birds. She is on Facebook. I had reason to send her a message yesterday about one of her birds. When she responded she said that a lot of the birds that came to her had fatty liver disease because they were on poor diets. She changed their diets (lots of fresh chop) and she stated that the birds improved. In time, it might help to contact her but you can certainly see her posts on Facebook. She is quite amazing.

Thanks, Jan, I will check that out. I'll be especially interested to learn about her techniques for switching them to fresh foods. Not much luck on that here. Peppy will try all kinds of other things, including some fruits, but he continues to spurn veggies. I've tried all the tricks I know, and will continue, but if there is a better way I'd like to learn about it.
