I showed Skye his reflection in the mirror today. He seemed puzzled, but interested. He stared for a while, then opened his beak.
How do your birds react to the mirror?

Mr P is convinced that he isnt really a bird so he ignores his reflection, knowing that isn't him

I have a couple who enjoy admiring themselves, and today Clyde discovered my Batman belt buckle, which is chrome and shiny and he tasted it, and then he chewed on it, and then he lost interest in it. LOL

Cupcake periodically attacks her reflection... half-heartedly, really. More of a beak bump. It's not clear to me if she understands at any point that it is her reflection or not. She also seems to get some amount of comfort from sitting next to her reflection.

Shah loves looking at himself. Once he sees one he stands in front of it and just stares at himself - he is probably admiring just how good looking he thinks he is

Allie CAG will admire herself in the mirror, but so far anyway, Peppy seems indifferent.

Taz LOVES looking at himself. He could look at in the mirror all day if we allowed it, singing and talking away. Pico and Chewy are indifferent.

The title of your post made me smile. I used to say something like that to George the YCA. All the closet doors in this apartment are mirrored, and when we first moved in, George was fascinated by his reflection. I asked him "Who's that funny parrot over there?" and he answered, matter-of-factly, "George." In the beginning, Ralph would try to attack the "other Quaker" in the mirror, but he eventually figured out he was looking at his own image. He pretty much ignores his reflection now.

Sometimes I take Bonnie into the bathroom, put the brightest heat lights on and say "look at the pretty birdie in the mirror!". The first few times she looked quite interested and did the wolf whistle several times. Nowadays she alternates between admiring herself - with accompanying whistles - and looking disinterested (depending on how often I take her in there). I am sure that she knows she is looking at a reflection of herself, though.

You know, on second thought, Cupcake must know it is her reflection. If she thought that was a different bird there's no way she would be so indifferent most of the time. But she still periodically beak bumps the mirror, so I don't know what that's about.

I was watching my bald canary last night as she snuggled up to one of her mirrors (she loves them so much that I gave her two) to go to sleep. When I first brought her home, I thought the mirror provided her some comfort and maybe she thought there was a second canary in there, but I didn't give her enough credit. Of course, I didn't know her then. She knows it's a reflection. She even preens in front of the mirror. But since she has trouble perching, the mirror also gives her something solid to lean against for balance that the cage bars don't provide on her other perches.

In the beginning, Ralph would try to attack the "other Quaker" in the mirror, but he eventually figured out he was looking at his own image. He pretty much ignores his reflection now. This pretty much reinforces my impression of bipolar quaker behaviour, that is, their on-again-off-again fetishes and interests. Perhaps it's just Bonnie and me being a poor 'parront'.

LOL I'm impressed that you have a Batman belt buckle. My only belt buckles are Levi's and Ducati. Sorry this has nothing to do with the original thread...
