This pretty much reinforces my impression of bipolar quaker behaviour, that is, their on-again-off-again fetishes and interests. Perhaps it's just Bonnie and me being a poor 'parront'. Poor parront? Certainly not. No, it's definitely common practice for QPs to lose interest in something, and often to renew it eventually. Ralph does that with objects, foods and sounds. He'll even give up building with his sticks for a week or two, then go back to it with renewed enthusiasm.

Mr P takes that whole concept one step further. He will TOTALLY IGNORE a toy hanging in one place, then totally obsess over it if I move it to a different place. Sometimes it requires it moving from one playstand to another to get his interest, other times it's just one side of his cage to another.

Again I'm reminded of Bonnie's 'decoy' behaviour when it comes to my laptop. She has become an expert in appearing to ignore it, then given a few seconds' opportunity (when my guard is down) she will rip off a key and its backing clip in one fell swoop... Sharyn, apparently you can just use one toy then. Great money saver, a win-win!

I actually do "recycle" the toys! I rotate them out every so often and hide the old ones. Then, when I get them back out, Mr P plays with those and I remove the ones he was playing with. I'm pretty sure he doesnt really think he is getting new toys all the time, I think he looks at them like old friends that he is seeing again. I stocked up on toys last year when I went to a bird fair and havent bought any new ones since. He doesnt really play with the kind that they destroy, he likes shiny stuff with bells and balls. All easily washed and recycled/reused!

Cupcake is a master at this sneak attack. She will wait months before she does it again. Personally I have become obsessive about closing my laptop even if I turn my back for a second. But I know she'll be there if I ever forget.

Oscar does not like his reflection and does the same as most on here... with the beak bump... however, when he is on my bed he loves to run up onto the pillows to look at the bird in the mirror on my headboard. It is quite amusing.

On Sunday, I found Johnny sitting on top of Maggie's cage, in front of the full-length mirror on the wall behind it (my parents put that mirror there years ago when they lived in the house and we've left as much as possible the way they had it). He sat there quite a long time, posing, and admiring his handsome self. LOL He turned this way. He turned that way. He looked over his shoulder to make sure his tail feathers were nice. He raised his crest and put it back down again. It was so funny. And he clearly knew he was looking at himself.

I really think they are ALL narcissists. There are a heck of a lot of pretty birdies who live in the mirror! By the way, Aaron, I thought you'd like to know that I found my ESC key down the side of the couch. Yay! Maybe I can blu-tack it back onto my laptop.

Just last night, Peppy started checking himself out for the first time. He may well have not been given the opportunity until now. I'd love to know what he was thinking.

Agh! What a pain! It is hard not to be a little angry when they get to the laptop.

I find it really weird when we talk about our quakers' behaviour on the forum and then they start doing stuff...as if they have read what we've posted...

That's an unsettling thought - the Quaker Security Administration... Maybe that's what they mean when they say quakers have a lot of intelligence.

Almost every toy Yogi has has a mirror on it because he LOVES them. He very rarely talks if he is not looking in the mirror. Yogi's favorite is when I stand with him in front of my full length mirror.

My parents' cockatiel does not care about toys unless they have a mirror on them. In fact, he just wants a straight up mirror. Nothing else. He isn't exactly the sharpest little guy though so in his case I am not sure he knows he is looking at his reflection.
