Oh, good idea with the clips, Aaron. In Australia we call these "bulldog clips" (at least we do in Victoria).

A warm welcome to your new feathered friend! QPs are indeed notorious escape artists. Ralph has gone so far as to take apart the nuts and bolts that hold the food and water access doors in place. I've had to attach small bird-safe branches in front of them so Ralph can't get at them, thus spoiling his fun but assuring his safety.

Ok we have a name! He decided on Griffin!! And we made progress today, he was carrying on at the front of his cage, jumping around and sqawrirping (the noise hehe). So I went over, and he took a couple of treats from my hands (a first!) and I remembered to use the clicker when he took them as well as lots of praise. He seems to be settling in well, but doesn't like wind!!

Welcome to Griffin. What a great name! I really like it. It sounds like he's already settled in. Well done with the clicker, we never bothered to get one for Bonnie (probably a bit late now, after 3 years...).

aww... that is so cool... your little one is home. Beautiful looking I must say. I never bought a clicker for my Oscar either... it seemed the praise was enough. Oscar is also afraid of the wind... I think they know how strong they are... or not... and want back in the house when the wind is strong.
You are now a slave... congratulations... lmaoooo

Thanks guys Slave? Nooooooooo hahaha. I just take him his food and water and clean up after him and make sure he's happy and take him back to his cage when he's had enough and spend my money on toys for him. I'm not a slave at alllllll Haha... and that's only the beginning Just wait until you find yourself re-architecting all of your routines around his needs and desires

Yeah... like aaron said... and just wait until you start changing clothes just because Griffin doesn't like a certain color... lol. It is true... they see lots of color and there are a few they do not like to be around. Or better yet.. wait until Griffin tears up some of your clothes... that is always fun... ha ha
These little guys love to socialize and be with you on every move you make. You may start to notice already that every time you leave the room Griffin cries out and doesn't stop until you come back. Best thing for me was to invent a certain whistle so that when he calls me... I can call back. He only wants to be sure you are okay.

Well the last couple of days have been pretty good! I've had work so was a bit worried about how he'd be by himself all day. But I've let him out each night, and he flies around the lounge room for a bit, and has decided to land on me a few times (previously didn't seem to like hands much). And he goes to bed by himself between 6:30 and 7:30. Weirdly, he won't go onto the coffee table. He's fine with the couch though. The table is wood too, so thought he'd be happier there.

They do have their little preferences! One thing a quaker is sure of is his/her own mind. They have no trouble with decision-making!

Most Quakers adjust to whatever schedule the owner has. So don't worry if you have to work. As long as you can spend some time with him each day that is the most important.
Hope your couch is leather as it makes cleaning up the droppings a little easier.

My birds don't like red. Why? Who knows. They are just odd like that.

Mine too Moose....no red or bright yellows and oranges. I wish I could see with their eyes. Obviously they see color but some shapes even scare Oscar. Guess we will never know why.
