Here in Northern Ontario it is not unusual that my patio will have snow right up to the railing tops... so that would be 5 feet. Our roads are constantly ice packed... I won't see the pavement until Spring. Snow Banks are enormous... at least 15 feet high. The kids love them.
This year I can still see the railing on the patio... so we have maybe one foot accumulation. Beautiful winter!!
We had a storm one year and just like the news on TV when I opened my door to go outside, it was totally snow packed. Funny how we never make the news for such a common occurrence lol lol

Thanks Ang! It was pretty insane. Kids still haven't gone to school this week. Tomorrow will be their first day back. Crazy!
Wow, julianna... that is an amazing amount of snow. Puts our puny blizzard to shame!

I had two sisters from Australia come and visit me once when I lived near Toronto which is 500 miles south of me. It was winter time but the winters there are not near as bad. The girls wanted to see snow so much... and we had none to be found. We went into a shopping mall and to my surprise when we came out there was a little white snow everywhere. They were so very excited. I think it was a little miracle just for them.
They were screaming... take a picture of me with the snow flake in my hair.... this is soooooo awesome. For me it was hilarious to see them so excited... but now they have the memory of touching snow and a picture of snow flakes in their hair. What nice people.
P.S. When we get "snow days" here almost all workers are paid to stay home. I find however, that when they declare "snow days" it isn't as bad as they think it is... like when I was a kid... there were no "snow days" at all... and now if one foot drops.... all kids stay home. Workers stay home when the highways are not plowed... or safe.

Haha... we will get snow days for a matter of inches around here. Hypersensitive we are. If there is any neighborhood where the cars can't get out, everyone stays home. Any chance of ice? Home. Ah well, I really don't mind... although this week was a bit much. I'm definitely more than ready to get back to normalcy.

Well... it hasn't taken long. I now have 5 feet of snow in my back yard (it snows almost every day) and tonight it will be minus 40 celcius. And that does not even include the wind chill factor.
Our lovely winter has turned rotten since the last time I wrote. It is too cold for me to go walking the dog next door. The dog doesn't mind as he is a husky dog... but I sure do. It is times like this that I am glad I don't have a dog.
What miserable weather.... geeezzzz.

Yesterday, we picked up just under a foot of new snow. The weekend is supposed to be frigid-- single-digit high temperatures tomorrow, and down to near -20 (F) tomorrow night. So much for our mild winter.

I can't imagine what -20C-40C would be like....the coldest weather I've experienced was -5 Celsius. I don't think I would do very well with that. Today our weather is 35 degrees Celsius (hot!). It fluctuates from day to day, from 20 then up to mid-30s again (bizarre). Hope you have your heaters/fires going!

-21C here tonight too, feeling colder with the windchill. Snow all around us within a few kilometres, but our little part of the world just has a dusting. The cold won't stop me from a hike tomorrow to get some bird pics. We get that heat in the summer biteybird but it is a really humid hot heat, I almost prefer bundling up in the cold.

Wow, Julianna, I had to go all the way to the South Pole to get that kind of cold. I wouldn't have the right clothing for it now. If I remember correctly, -40 is the point where farenheit and celcius are the same.

You are correct Easttex... minus 40 is minus 40 in both scales. (julianna steals blanket from aaron)

Holy cow, I'm with you Biteybird - here is Aus we don't get those sort of winter temperatures. I think bits of me would fall off if I had to experience that sort of cold.

Overnight Saturday, the official low temperature at the Syracuse airport was -23 F (that's roughly -30 C). My digital thermometer recorded a low of -18. Much better today, with a high of +23 F. Still cold, but a big improvement. Now we have a coastal storm moving in, which will likely bring a mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain and finally just rain as the temperature goes up into the 40's.
