Oh, I'm so sorry!
Don't lose hope! Here's a true story for you.
Back in 2011 my husband got a phone call from a friend saying that a "parakeet" had just landed on his blanket at Lake Samish. He was picnicking with his girlfriend, and asked if he could bring it to us and we all would try to find the owner. Well, they got to our house carrying the parrot with a gray head and orange eyes in a blanket with the head sticking out...Zach and I looked at each other and said "That's a Senegal, not a parakeet!" Anyway, our friend's girlfriend was at the shopping center in Sudden Valley (about 4 miles from the lake, over low mountains - foothills for those of us in mountainous areas - and dense forest, as the crow flies) and saw a flyer for a missing Senegal. So I called and the guy correctly identified this parrot's missing toe. She had been missing for three months! He couldn't believe that she was alive and seemed to be healthy.
Keep the faith! 💕

Holy cow! Something very strange (but awesome!) happened tonight, as we put the birds to bed.
Chewy, our 12 year old Quaker, prefers my husband and has tried to attack me whenever I've attempted to touch him for the last 10 years or so. Well, tonight when my husband picked him up as we were getting ready to cover the cages, Chewy kept leaning toward me, and not in an aggressive manner. So I held my arm out, expecting him to strike...
and he stepped up! I held him for a minute, then put him on their tree. I still can't believe he didn't bite me!

I have strong feelings about our current government, so I don't want to get into that subject. LOL

Hi everyone, I'm so sorry for my absence!
I'm in Washington state, about 90 miles north of one of the major outbreaks. As of now, there are 48 confirmed cases in my county and 2 deaths.
So far my husband and I, and our friends and families, are all safe.
Washington is on "Stay Home" orders now, with the exception of essential workers and essential tasks.
I hope everyone here is safe and healthy. 💕

I'm so glad to hear that you're safe, Biteybird! 💕
Jan, I cannot imagine how terrifying this is. The fires have burned the equivalent of 1/3 of Washington state, where I live. Unimaginable.
The loss of life is so devastating. Your poor koalas. 😢
And yes, the firefighters are truly heroes. 💕

Does she have a nest box? She may not think the conditions are good enough for taking care of babies. If they're not fertile it's not a bad thing for her to abandon the eggs.
Wait until she for sure has abandoned them to remove them, or replace them with fake eggs. That will keep her from laying more.
Also, make sure she has plenty of calcium in her diet.

Awwwww, poor Freddie!!
Yup, give it enough time and you learn that "Quakertude" is an actual word that should be in the dictionary. Same with "Appytude" in horses. LOL

Yup, Chewy coughs and sneezes with me, too. I like to think it's out of sympathy. LOL

Do you mean they're not tight and "zipped up" like you think of feathers looking?
Does your baby need a bath? Dirty feathers can have a ragged look.
Is it the tail feathers, or all over the body? Vertical cage bars can cause damage to tail feathers.
Are there any signs that something might be off - changes in appetite, changes in poop appearance, crusty nostrils or eyes, sitting fluffed up, sleeping with both feet on the perch (unless this is normal for your bird)?
Hope this helps!

One exercise that a few parrot behaviorists recommend is the "rescue". You put your Quaker in an unfamiliar (safe) place on the floor - the bathtub works well - and your wife "rescues" him (offers her hand or perch and asks him to step up), then takes him to his cage.
It's also good to remember that hanging out on human shoulders is a privilege, not a right. Bites to the neck, ears (playing with earrings doesn't count LOL), face, etc., or refusal to step down from your shoulder should result in banishment from shoulders until the privilege is earned again. 😊
Good luck!
