Can you please give details about the Quaker's personality? Likes and dislikes? Why is she being rehomed?

I should have posted this a LONG time ago, and I'm sorry that I'm just now getting to it! Here's how to start a thread: 1. Decide what section you want to post in and click on it. 2. This is the "Quaker Parrot Talk" section. At the top right, click on the "Create Thread" button. 3. This screen comes up. Type in your Subject and Body, then scroll down and click "Create Thread". You're done! As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

You've gotten some EXCELLENT advice. Great post, Sharyn! Biteybird and Easttex gave really sound advice, too. I really can't add anything, except to say again to try to be patient. Your baby is stressed and probably literally thinks you're going to eat him...birds are prey animals. The book Sharyn referred to is called "Guide to the Quaker Parrot" by Mattie Sue Athan. She also wrote a fabulous book called "Guide to the Well Behaved Parrot", which I highly recommend. Welcome to the forum!

If they're sick they may sleep more, sleep with both feet on the perch (often they will only sleep on one foot), sit on the bottom of their cage more often, or have a "puffed up" look for long periods (they're cold).

Hi Tuesday, I think letting her choose what she wants to eat is great, however, veggies should only be left in the cage for 4 hours at the most, because they go bad quickly. I hope this helps!

I sent an email to a vet in California several years ago, asking if vets are required to report owners who bring a Quaker in for care. He said no, they're not required to and he personally would treat a Quaker. Say he's a Gray-Cheeked Parakeet if they ask.
