Just spoke to the vet. Shah's droppings are clear and his stomach is much improved. The reading of 1400 is now down to 500 (should be 300) which shows that his stomach function is returning to normal and the infections and inflammation are gone but it is still partly paralyzed. He is now on a special bean mix at night - again, heated. He also has to have scrambled egg made on water twice a week . I did ask about the grapes and the vet said they were fine for him - I guess cos he doesnt have any other "naughty" food in his diet. He goes back in a month for another xray and again, in 3 months time. The vet did say that he had the stomach problem for a very long time - I think Shah has done extremely well and am lucky he has bounced back so quickly.

Three cheers for Shah! Wonderful news that he's recovering so well, and that his conduct has improved too.

All good things must come to an end and tonight the end of the non biting phase came to an end. He was screaming at me as I was too slow getting him his 2 course dinner. Then when we were playing, he must have got bored as I got 3 bites. The good news is that he didn't break the skin - I think they were warning bites which is pretty impressive for him.

Still sounds like progress. It would be weird if he didn't re-test those boundaries. I would temporarily cease playing as soon as he lands the first bite.

That is amazing about his recovery, particularly as he's been 'off' for so long! It's good that you can see the improvement and track it by the numbers. Maybe his feistiness will re-assert a little as he feels better...hopefully not TOO much. I hope you are more rested since last week.

If he bites while playing I would think "over-stimulated" before "bored", but then I wasn't there. I'm very happy for you that he is doing so much better.

The biting isn't necessarily a setback. As Shah recovers, he's likely to get a little more feisty and assertive. Screaming because dinner is late-- that sounds like typical parrot impatience to me, and perhaps another indication that Shah is feeling better.

I agree Gary. I dont view the biting as a set back - he always broke the skin before and these were warning bites. He hasnt done it again. He certainly behaved like a wild boy this morning and ran straight up to where his hot breakfast is served and demanded I get it - he usually comes out of the cage and helps me with the birdy breakfasts. I knew straight away not to put my hand in there unless it had his breakfast bowl in it. He is doing just fine and I am thrilled with his progress. He preens me every morning before I go to work and checks out my clothes to see if they are suitable. Of course I still get called Monkey Breath as I say goodbye.

It sounds like you are just going to have to learn to embrace the term Monkey Breath. A lot of groups do that. Take what is used as a derogatory and make it their own.

At least it's not actually vulgar. Personally I've thought it sounded pretty adorable from the moment I first heard Jan mention Shah's use of "Monkey Breath".

I agree, Aaron, I secretly laugh every time Jan says that Shah called her monkey breath again!
Guess it's not so secret anymore. Sorry Jan, I just can't help it!

You wouldn't find it adorable or funny if you heard it constantly. However, I do embrace the Monkey Breath and know that I will always be his Monkey Breath. At least it is better than when he used to scream out Monkey Butt when he was really, really angry with me.
