Right? What did she have to say about his vision? No comment?

Her assistant took Pico in back so they could take some blood. Dr. Ferguson came right out and said "I don't see any improvement."
I said that yes, he has improved a little bit. He's more vocal, and I think he can see, at least somewhat better.
She said "Good! We'll take it!"

Dang it....poor little Pico doesn't want to come out of his cage now. He screeches whenever I try to pick him up, and clings to the cage grate. I think we'll be saying goodbye pretty soon.

I pried him off of his grate, and we've been snuggling on the couch. I've been singing to him, and he seems content. He's peeping a little bit, and grinding his beak.
I told him that if he's tired of fighting, to just let me know. I'm feeling very sad right now.

Why dont you call them (unless they have finished for the day)? Called my vet this morning - Shah's faecal results look encouraging. He sees the vet in 2 weeks time for another blood test. The vet asked how he was handling not having nuts - I said "not well" - he gets very agitated about it so I have to distract him.

Sorry to hear of Pico's struggles, Dani... This must be really tough for you-- I'm sorry. Hopefully this is just a rough patch-- I'm glad to hear that he is content. He knows he is loved. You're doing a great job. We'll be praying for you both.

He's a little heartbreaker. On top of everything else, it's hard to watch them go through all the medical procedures, not knowing if they will help or if you're stressing them for nothing. It's a tough call, but I hope he is still fighting. Rage, rage, little Pico.

I just called the vet, and here we go:
Petly-Chemistries are normal. The white blood cell count is abnormal. There is a shift to primarily heterophils. This is an indication of infection. Plan is to add an antibiotic to the celebrex and monitor for improvement. This could be a secondary infection from her being immune compromised or from other causes. We will want to repeat a white blood cell count in 10 to 14 days, while on medications
Will need to call RX into compounding pharmacy. RX chloramphenicol 50 mg/ml. Give 0.03 mls by mouth once every 12 hours for 18 days.

Infections can really affect them. Who knows where these infections come from? I have given up trying to figure it out. I think that Pico has a good chance to improve now that the bloods are back and you know what you are doing. The improvement in Shah has been nothing short of miraculous and I hope Pico improves at the same rate as Shah. Hopefully there will be no more bad days. That little Pico sure is a battler and he hasnt given up for a second. He is made of stern stuff
