Wow... that is quite surprising... what is her favorite thing to eat?

Peanuts, she loves peanuts. I used to enjoy watching her deal with the unshelled, but quit giving them to her because of the risk of aflatoxins. Now she gets Planters unsalted from the jar. Much as she loves them, I can't use them as a training reward. She suddenly develops an aversion when I try.

Ah peanuts, yes... Cupcake also loves peanuts. Does anything work as a training reward or does she have an aversion to training?

She does pretty well with praise and scritches, and fortunately she's well behaved to begin with. The one thing I'd really like to work on with her is the harness. I think about it every year as the weather starts getting nice, and of course that's the time of year that I dare not touch her below the neck, so I never seem to get very far with it.

Cupcake does pretty well with praise and scritches too... I'd love to get Cupcake in a harness... I'm afraid to try as well, although touching her below the neck isn't really an issue as long as we don't stroke her back... at least so far. It seems like her spring hormones are almost back to normal at this point. If this is as bad as it's going to get during springtime I will consider myself lucky, as we really only had about 2-3 weeks of her being super hormonal, and it never got all that bad. But she's not even 4 yet (June 10!)... so we'll see.

Shah couldnt care less about praise and scritches. His rule is "Thou shalt have no other living being or inanimate object before me - otherwise you are in serious doo doo". My apologies to any religious folk I have just offended.

Hmmm, Shah practices what is known as Tough Love. You want flowers and poetry, but he has decided you need discipline. I could have used an adjutant like him in the navy.

Obviously we humans need more Shahs around to remind us of our place in the scheme of things - that is, at the bottom.
Ha, easttex, I'm sure we'd have lots of 'service' stories to swap...I remember once doing a parade (I'm ex-Army) and they had these lazy-looking camels as the Corps mascots. So, we had to do an Advance & Review Order and ended up standing in camel s**t and half the band threw up on the parade ground.
Edit: Sorry, it's 'Advance IN Review order' - my memory is not great since 'getting out' in 2001 (just 2 weeks prior to the twin towers attacks).

Well I really copped it tonight. I was half an hour late getting His Royal Smugness out of the cage and got beak bashed, screamed at and bitten for my trouble. I tell him "stop it" - and sure enough he says "stop it". He is now back in his cage as he gave me such a hard time and then wanted to go to bed. I was more than happy to oblige him. Hopefully he will wake up on the right side of his happy hutch tomorrow. I had to laugh at Biteybird's post - my imagination ran wild with her description of the Advance and Review Order.

Mr P doesnt like sunflower seeds or corn either. What he absolutely goes apesh*t over is that Hawaiian bread. He recognizes the packaging it comes in and practically bounces off his playstand when he sees me getting a piece. He doesnt like peanuts either, but he loves wheat thins. I was actually going to try to do some target training with him but he isnt really motivated by anything healthy! Daisy LOVES peanuts in the shell but as was mentioned, they are not good for her. Currently, that is the only food she will take from my hand. She is pretty much afraid of anything she doesnt recognize as food and she is so rough when she takes the peanut, I am a little hesitant about offering her something smaller for fear of my fingers. Rocky is beautiful and seems really sweet already. Daisy has the potential to be sweet but really just needs some patience and understanding at the moment as she is really really really scared of hands. I don't even want to try to imagine why

What's Hawaiian bread (I mean how does it differ to normal bread - sorry if this sounds stupid)?
I can relate to the finger/fear thing. Bonnie lunges for our fingers when we change her food and water dishes while she's in her cage. She's so feral it's scary. I think it's cage territorialism or because they are shiny metal (don't really know).

This morning I ran into the woman from whom we got Rocky. She didn't know he could talk. She was surprised to find out he doesn't scream all day and all night. And that he likes to snuggle. Then she referred to him as "her" bird and said she misses him. I refrained from saying, "No, he's MY bird and he doesn't miss YOU." Poor traumatized baby, who crawls into my arms for hugs, trembles when you take him a few feet away from his cage or if he hears a sudden noise (including a dog sneezing) and doesn't recognize fruit and veggies as food. He was always my bird, it just took a while for me and him to locate one another.

That's so sad! I'm really glad that you found each other, though! He'll have nothing but excellent care from here on out!

'Toos live a long time and I hope he's still young enough that the bad memories will fade as he gets used to being a Mama's boy. Somebody must have loved him and taken good care of him at some point along the way, or he wouldn't be so sweet and affectionate. I can mess with his feet and touch his wings and tail and beak and he's perfectly all right with that. I can reach into his cage to pet him and he's okay with that, too. He'd like to sit on my shoulder and once we've gotten to know each other well, I'll probably let him.

Hawaiian Bread: www.kingshawaiian.com/products/rolls-12-pack/They have a little 4 pack that I sometimes buy as well. The wrapper is distinctive and Mr P recognizes it as I lift it out of the grocery bag to put it away. I dont even have to unwrap it.
