As I am always looking for ways to entertain Oscar, I have bought a box full of various toys and he does not like any of them. So I decided that maybe he would like a toy that looks like a bird.
First I tried a little plastic budgie and that one got beat up. Then I bought a second plastic budgie that sang a tune and I glued some of Oscar's old feathers onto it and that was quite hilarious. I would make the budgie pop up and down along the edge of the coffee table while it sang a tune. Oscar did not know what to make of this so eventually he just attacked it over and over again. And here I thought I was doing so well with the matching feathers and all. lol
Then I bought another toy bird this one a small white owl with big black eyes.... ha ha ha... boy did that one ever take a beating. Ok... I figure maybe something bigger so I bought 2 black birds. Yup... you guessed it... bad move. He ran as far away as he could. Guess I should have thought that I was training him to scream when big black birds come around.... duhhhhh.
So much for bird toys. I guess for now I will have to be the "toy of the year".... lol lol

This so reminds of when my sister and I were small children, and my parents, who did not have much money, splurged one Christmas on two really large dolls. Their arms and legs moved, and you could walk them. State of the art at the time. I imagine my parents were pretty excited for us. What did we wind up playing with? The big boxes the dolls came in. I think our birds are kind of like that.

Hahahaha, Sammy was like that at first, then I took the tissue paper he LOVES to rip up and intertwined it with his toys. Now he plays with his toys like nobody's business! I think he just didn't realize it was okay to play with them at first.

I'm quite impressed with you, Julianna. You've put in way more effort than I would have bothered with. Bonnie's been provided with many of the latest colourful, dangly, textured bird toys for quite a while now...and what is her favourite play activity? Playing inside an empty, foil potato chip packet.

Biteybird, does Bonnie come out greasy and salty?

Biteybird, does Bonnie come out greasy and salty? Actually, she does...! And she stays that way until she decides to have a bath (not often enough in our opinion). If I were to cook a tasty dish it would be crispy pan-fried quaker in a special honey-spiced sauce, served with rice - more likely when she has transgressed beyond all reasonable bounds.

Peppy was lucky yesterday that I'm vegetarian. Gads, he was a pill all day. I'm in the process of switching him to a day cage, and he doesn't like it much. He chews me out off and on all day, even when I'm not doing anything, and he's back to biting when my hand is close to his cage. He hasn't wanted to come out for scritches, either. But we'll get through this.

We frequently joke about "eating the bird". She smells so good -- kind of like a really tasty but slightly dusty tortilla chip. And sometimes I just want to chew on those feet.

Just a slight drawback - you'd only get a coupla bites out of the bird! Lots of side dishes would be required.

Aaron, I actually kiss Shah's feet. Drives him crazy - he hates it.

Yeah, there's not much meat on those bones. I guess we'll have to keep her around. Hahaha Jan that's great... we play with Cupcake's feet constantly. She loves foot massages and at least tolerates foot kisses. She will come over and offer her foot to us. It's very cute.

Oscar does the same as cupcake. No matter what we are doing if I say "shake a paw" up goes his right foot and lets me shake it. Quite cute.

Hmm, we've neglected playing with/kissing/shaking Bonnie's feet...have to try it and see how she reacts.

Ralph likes to "shake hands" too. When we do, I'm required to say "How do you do?" If I forget to say it, then I get squawked at. He also likes to "hold hands" when I sit by his cage-- he'll put up one of his feet and I have to stick my little finger through the bars so he can hold onto it. If I ask him "Where's your little parrot foot?" he'll hold up one foot to show me (if he feels like it, of course).

Those little parrot feet are so cute. I can't help but squeeze them.
Cupcake also kinda chews on her foot / puts it on her beak when she is getting head rubs. I need to figure out how to post a video of this, because it's one of the most adorable things ever.
