I doubt anyone on here is from the same area, but last night when I got home from work, Rio flew out the door as soon as I opened it. I must have left the cage door open that morning He has been gone since about 5:30 last night. Only spotted him twice and then he took off to a place I couldn't spot. I have not hear or seen him since. I have reported him in various places and no luck yet. Have a cage sitting out with some food. Been calling to him over and over again every chance I get. If I didn't have to work I'd be out looking for him all the time. I can't believe he is lost, and its cold out I live in Papillion, NE. If anyone hears him or sees him (if anyone even is from around here) please let me know!

That is very unfortunate! I am sorry to hear about Rio getting out the door. I really hope you are able to find him. Unfortunately I am nowhere nearby but I wish you the best in finding your little buddy.

He was lost for just a day over 2 weeks! Today I got a call from the Humane Society that they had found a Quaker Parrot, I rushed there as fast as I could. He made a long flight but it was him!!! Rio is home safe after surviving below freezing temps by himself and flying a number of miles!! Thanks everyone. I am beyond shocked and thrilled that he has come home. He hasn't spoken a word yet, but he just got home about an hour ago and was there for just a couple hours so he was catching up on eating. He did preen me obsessively after eating, and gave me kisses. I can't believe I got him back, I had about given up and was looking at getting another Quaker.

That is just fantastic news. Glad he is home safe and well (although obviously very hungry).

I love starting my day with good news. I'm very happy for you! I can only imagine what went through Rio's mind when he first saw you. Do you know know how he came to be turned over to the Humane Society?

Do you know know how he came to be turned over to the Humane Society? I have been wondering about this since I read about Rio's return yesterday!

They said one of their people was over in that area anyway, I was too excited to get specifics but my understanding was he flew down to the guy and he is pretty friendly (though once he claims a person no one else can pet him) so they took him in. Said that once he got to the humane society he was trying to preen everyone!

How lucky is that, that he would fly down to someone who knew just what to do with him! He must be one happy little bird today.
