As soon as Pico is out, he is the sweetest little guy. It's just getting him out that is an issue...I won't even call it a problem, because it's not really. You just have to be willing to take some bites. If you don't handle them daily they really do turn into little monsters, and I'd like him to stay tame. LOL

We've noticed that when we open the cage door Bonnie retreats and won't step up, but does little loops through her sleeping hut and squawks a lot. As soon as we walk away, she comes out onto the open door, then happily flies to her food tray (accompanying each wing beat with a loud screech...) and is generally well-behaved - within the limits of her lack of normal manners. I am sure she has Oppositional Defiance Disorder!
Would it be worth just opening the door, then seeming to ignore Pico? Perhaps he might want to come out on his own.

I do that with Taz, and he flies to my head. Maybe we could put a perch in front of Pico's cage that he could jump on....his wings are clipped. That might work. Thank you!

Pico is MUCH better about stepping up from his cage without biting. Yay! He also has started to figure out that he can fly! The tree is normally used by Taz, but sometimes we'll put Pico on it because we're his jungle gyms and he is constantly running and climbing all over us when we have him out. He really hates being seperated from us, though, so he often jumps to the floor and runs across the room so we'll pick him up, or he'll sit there bobbing his head and weaving back and forth, begging for one of us to come rescue him. Well, last night he figured out how to climb to the VERY top of the tree and sat there begging for awhile, and then when we wouldn't come get him he jumped off, flapped his wings and flew across the room and landed on the curtain rod. I must say, he looked quite stunned but rather pleased with himself. Zach climbed up on the couch to get him down. We're so happy to have Pico in our flock! He's hilarious! LOL

Goodness, he's a prodigy! Please don't make me go out and get a parrotlet now. I even know a local breeder.

I don't know where I'd put another one. LOL I suspect one of my bettas is going to leave us soon based on his behavior recently and I'm actually figuring on downsizing a smidge at that point. A second betta is beginning to act oddly, too. The third is doing just fine and I've had him the longest. Go figure.

No, no, Siobhan! No buying babies from breeders (say that three times fast!) for you! We need you to keep SOME space open for the rescue/rehomes who may need you in the future!

Go Pico! Maybe you shouldn't bother clipping his wings anymore, as it sounds like he's learning to fly regardless...

No, we never have clipped his wings. Our birds are free-fliers....we're just extra careful with the doors and windows. I'm in the office and Pico is in there saying "something".....it took me a couple minutes to figure it out. He's saying " Wanna come out?" and "Yay, Chewy!! Woo woo woo!!!" Oh yes, and his "Tickle, tickle, tickle! Hahahahaha!" LOL

You do realise, Jan & Dani, that by telling Siobhan 'No' you are virtually ensuring that she ends up with a parrotlet?

I am busy enough with the eight I have and trying to make friends with a very suspicious canary who is convinced that Ringo and I are going to eat her. On top of that, I suspect that Betsy the platy is going to present me with some grandfish soon. I hope she and Arthur don't eat ALL the babies. I want at least a few to survive.
