He's a beautiful boy! His body conformation looks a lot like our lovebird's. She has the short, rounded tail. Absolutely love his colors. Congratulations!

I absolutely LOVE Pico. He is such a doll and so much fun to watch, bouncing around his cage. When he's out he uses me as a jungle gym, first hiding under my hair on one shoulder, then RUNNING across my chest as fast as he can go and hiding under my hair on the other shoulder...then down my arm to chew on my sleeve, then back. So cute! When I was doing my research on them, I found out that the mutations can't have pellets, because they cause kidney damage. The seed mix I bought (Higgins Sunburst) has pellets in it, and I don't know what they are...I just sent the company a message, asking what they are but I'm currently in the process of picking them out, just to be safe. LOL

Chewy is teaching Pico to talk! For a couple weeks now Pico has been chattering non-stop, and we haven't been able to understand anything he was trying to say. Well, last night when we were covering their cages Pico said "Good night" as clear as a bell. Zach and I were standing on opposite sides of his cage, and I had just started to put the blanket on. Pico said "Good night" and Zach and I just stared at each other for a second and then praised him like mad. It was very cool.

Good job, Pico! Parrotlets aren't known for being great talkers, but I've heard of several with big vocabularies and clear speech. Like most kinds of parrots, Parrotlets aren't much interested in upholding their reputation and have their own ideas about what they should do.

Like most kinds of parrots, Parrotlets aren't much interested in upholding their reputation and have their own ideas about what they should do. This is SOOO true! Here is a list of everything Pico says (everything that we can understand, anyway!): "I love you!" "Tickle tickle tickle!" "What happened?" "Good night!" "Pretty bird!" "Mmmmmm!" (when he gets a treat)

He also mimics all of Taz's sounds and whistles, as well as Chewy's "Pay attention to ME!" squawk (as loud as Pico can, which is not very loud). LOL

Okay, add "Hi bubba!" and "Get you! (as in "I'm gonna get you!") to the list...LOL

Pretty soon, Pico will be saying "Who says Parrotlets don't talk much?" He's learning a lot.

He talks A LOT. We can't understand him a lot of the time, but he is definitely trying to talk.
