Peppy has been bringing up saliva this morning. Five or six times, anyway. He's a little quiet, but otherwise seems normal. He's eating and playing with his chain toy. I'm afraid it might be a sign of air sac mites, and will take him to the vet tomorrow. I can remember seeing a couple of my chickens do this, but only once. Has anyone seen anything like this?

I can't get him in to the vet before next week, but he has seemed fine. If I see it again before his appointment I will beg them to take him as an emergency, but otherwise will keep a watch. Getting him in to the travel cage should be a trick.

We saw the vet today. Peppy didn't like it, of course, but he did take it better than I expected. No sqwawking. Poor little fellow has some intestinal parasites, so he got wormed. She said he could have had them for years. Geez, I should have had a fecal float done long ago, when I first got him. Otherwise, nothing obviously wrong with him. Weight is good -130 grams. Lab tests back in a few days. We're both happy to have that behind us.

130 grams you say? Wow, he's chubby! :)Glad he's OK and that you found out what the problem was.

The worms probably weighed some of that :} I am pleased he is okay.

After handling my 480 gram grey, he feels like a literal featherweight to me. Now that I can handle him, at least sometimes, I'm going to start weighing him a couple times a week. The vet just called with his lab results and everything looks good. She is not convinced that the saliva thing was related to the parasites, and I will be keeping an eye on him.
He is not as snuggly today as he was the last couple days. I hate to think that maybe he was more affectionate when he was wormy.

Sounds like you are in the bad books. Lots of bribes - oops, I mean treats should help.

He is not as snuggly today as he was the last couple days.
That's undoubtedly your punishment for the vet visit.

I kind of expected to be punished the day of the vet visit, and when I wasn't, perhaps got a false sense of security. Either he was setting me up, or he just needed to stew about it for a while.

I gave him his second dose of the wormer today, and expected to pay for it. He was surprisingly good about taking the medicine, considering he hasn't been trained for it. I figured he would not want to come out for our now-routine afternoon snuggle, but he leaped onto my hand and was a total love monkey. What a sweetie he has turned out to be. He even tries to groom me back. Unfortunately, he can get a little enthusiastic about it sometimes and gets a pretty good pinch of my skin, but his heart's in the right place. I think...

He just loves you (that's what I tell hubby when Bonnie nips him too hard). Well done!

He brought up saliva a couple times yesterday, so the worms were apparently not it. Unless we just didn't manage to get them all. Back to the vet next week. He'll probably get a throat culture, which I know he's going to enjoy.

Oh, hope he goes OK. Has he been bringing up saliva this whole time or just now and then?
