Dont beat yourself up over this. It would have been a slow decline so you might not have noticed straight away. The main thing is that he is getting better so no harm done.

Thanks, Jan, but you know how we are when it comes to our fids. I would say the same thing to someone else, but will beat myself up anyway . Another clue that might be helpful to someone down the road: my husband started referring to him as "stinky Peppy". My grey sometimes is redolent of something that is not at all unpleasant to me - kind of a dusty, wheaty odor. I thought my husband was smelling that for a long time, but then realized there was something else. Everyone passed the sniff test, and I scoured their area, so I couldn't figure it out. A couple days into the antibiotics and, voila, odor gone. So if anyone has a similar experience and you can't find a month-old brussel sprout that rolled under the cabinet next to the bird cage...

Drat! Peppy had saliva at the bottom of his cage this morning, after appearing so well for so long. I hope that maybe another round of antibiotics will take care of it, but I can't get him in before next week.

I know that sinking feeling in your stomach when you see these things. If you cant get to the vet until next week dont worry. You know the antibiotics will clear it out and he will be fine. Good luck.

awww geezzz... sorry to hear that easttex. I truly hope he will be better soon. I would be totally sick if it was my little guy. I don't even have a vet here to turn to. All I have is you guys and you all help me to keep Oscar as fit as possible... best wishes.

Not having a vet to turn to would be truly nerve-wracking. Where do you live, Julianna?
I thought I might be able to start him on the antibiotics again before his Wednesday appointment, but the vet did not want to. She recommended I cancel the appointment if he doesn't have any more episodes, but if he does he will need another crop culture and would probably get a different antibiotic.

I live 500 miles north of Toronto Ontario in Canada. If I needed a vet (which some day I am sure I will) I would have to drive 350 miles to the nearest one. We have vets here but none of them will take care of birds. I am sure that if Oscar got sick... I can see myself jumping in the vehicle and doing the drive. I would do anything to make him well.

Sorry to hear this easttex. That is definitely a bummer.
Wow, I cannot imagine not having a vet to turn to. I don't think my nerves could handle that situation. I often forget how lucky we are to live in a place with so many options to turn to in this regard.

Julianna - have you ever thought about trying to do a video call with the vet? Of course, they couldn't do any tests, but it might be a way to figure out what something is. That way you'd probably feel a lot better and the other vets might be more willing to do a test and send the results over. Might not work - just an idea.
