Pele got brave today, climbed down his ladder, off his cage and decided to explore!

Pele is adorable! What did he like most when exploring?

He likes the edges of the couch, he likes to try to crawl under them! LOL

Well done, Sharyn! Pele is obviously gaining confidence. I like the way he waddles about. Has Pele met Mr P yet, or do you have them in separate rooms?

I have to laugh, although Pele is interested in Mr P and will call to him when Mr P does his flock calls, Mr P (if he were human which he thinks he is) would and will not give Pele the time of day. He acts as though Pele is not even in the same room with him, even though they are. Ironically enough, Mr P will imitate Pele's pionus call, except he does it 25x louder than Pele! (Pele is a very quiet bird, even when he is calling)
I have to go to Denver next week for 12 days. Up until now, Pele's cage has been in my dining room/office and Mr P's cage in the hallway near the guest bedrooms. Mr P comes out of his cage during the day and hangs out on his playstands, also in my dining room/ office. When I go to Denver, since they will be spending most of the day alone, I am going to put their cages in the same area so they can at least see each other. Maybe they'll be buds by the time I get back.

Keep dreaming Sharyn - Mr P friends with Pele - I think not. You have done so well with Pele. How confident is that little boy now? I am sending Shah by airmail to you. He has stopped biting himself and is now pulling out feathers. Have bought a whole lot of toys for him today even though he hates toys. Will be looking at "renovating" his current playstand - which he also hates. Back to vet in a couple of day's time.

Sorry to hear Shah is doing that, Jan. Do QPs go through 'midlife' crisis, I wonder (he just turned 10, right?)? Maybe some of the other forum members who have older quakers - I seem to remember there are a few who have QPs aged 19 to 21 years old - can shed some light on this behaviour.
Sharyn, keep 'deluding' yourself, I say. Who knows, Mr Piggy might love Pele eventually (& pigs might fly)! :DTry not to worry too much about going away, they'll be fine.

I'm really sorry about your problems with Shah, Jan. Maybe a total change of scenery like a new room to live in, or a different cage if you have a spare one? I think renovating his playstand is a good idea, especially if it means you can move him to another room. Please keep us posted! lol I'm not sure Mr P and Pele should be friends, I still hold out hope that Pele will get adopted It's sort of a catch 22. The more bonded he gets to us the nicer the bird he becomes, the harder it's going to be for him to leave us and start over. I really just do not want another permanent resident here. But, in the meantime, we will continue to see if we can get him to actually step up on someone's (probably mine) hand or arm. Now THAT will be a HUGE accomplishment!

And, as a followup to this, today Pele decided to explore the guest bathroom (I always leave the toilet lid down so he was safe) and was heading toward the guest bedrooms when I heard the clicking of toenails on the floor and went to see what was up.

I heard the clicking of toenails on the floor Ah, yes. The toenail tell. They sneak up on you on carpet, but tile will give them away every time. When Peppy went off for his own exploring, he didn't go very far. First he found a ripple in the orental rug and perched there for a while. Then he ambled over to Allie's cage and hauled himself up onto one of the support bars. I think it irritated Allie a bit to not be able to see him, but to just know he was there somewhere.
