We absolutely do care Aaron... we want you well soon. I was wondering if the Doctor recommended lactulose? I know my brother in law had ammonia in his system and this liquid is what removed it. At first he was drinking about a shot 5 times a day and now he uses it 3 times a day. When the liver is in trouble this liquid will pull the poison out of your body. I am not a Doctor and will not pretend to be even close... but when you mentioned ammonia... I just had to tell you this.
Best wishes and please get well soon.

Thanks to all of you. You're all the best, and I'm lucky to have you as my friends.
It's gotten to the point now where it appears I can't tolerate any of the medication they put me on, which was stabilizing my anxiety... So it appears I will have to stop it rather suddenly (although I have not actually been able to talk to them about this yet... but that's my guess based on how I feel and how things seem to be progressing)... So unfortunately this means dealing with withdrawal, which is not fun as an anxious and also physically compromised person. Luckily I can go to my parents' house and get some peace and quiet to deal with this for a few days, as staying home with Cupcake by myself can be pretty stressful when I'm not feeling well.
So far the doctors have only recommended L-Ornithine + L-Arginine... I already take liposomal vitamin C and R-ALA, as well as N-Acetyl-Cysteine for liver support... I've taken liposomal Glutathione as well, but that didn't seem to help much. Also burbur/pinella for liver support. Going to add milk thistle tomorrow. I'e heard of lactulose, but not taking it... will look into it further.
Thanks again everyone. I greatly appreciate the support. *hugs all around*

Lactulose is a pretty interesting sugar. Just about everywhere else, you can get it over the counter, but you need a prescription in the US. A case of over-caution, I think. There was fear that it would be used by diabetics, to their great harm. Which sounds odd to me, because if I understand correctly, it is not metabolized by the body, but just goes in, does its job, and is flushed out. I think it is most often used as a laxative.
Again, Aaron, I hope you get this all sorted out soon.

Hi Aaron, have you tried a relaxation therapy such as massage, reflexology, meditation to help with anxiety and withdrawal? I have found reflexology to be ever so helpful when I have gone through periods of difficulty in my life - it even helped me to pass some kidney stones. I have to admit that I was a major sceptic about these types of therapies but after having reflexology done for a number of months and experienced improved health and attitude to life, I went out and became a qualified reflexologist.

Aaron, I forgot to mention one other thing about Lactulose. I can't remember where I saw it, but somewhere one of the potential side effects was described as a "pungent flatulance" that might prove awkward in social situations. It did have that effect on me, but not on Peppy. i love that phrase, and use it whenever I can.

Jan, I am a big fan of all of those techniques.. Unfortunately massage can be risky for Lyme patients because it can release a bunch of toxins and set you off down a toxic reaction... The last time I tried to get a massage, when the therapist found out I had Lyme they turned me away. I've done reflexology and loved it, but need to do it again. Been a while. I get acupuncture almost weekly, though... that tends to be my go-to for this sort of thing... I could definitely do more meditation. I'm also somewhat versed in various self-healing techniques and use those a lot. I used to be a major skeptic of all of these types of therapy, and many spiritual concepts in general, as well... but they really work, and my whole perspective did a 180 around 5 years ago. Easttex, that is quite a side effect! Hahaha, I'm glad Peppy didn't get that effect. I don't think that's good for birds

I'm hanging in there, thanks for asking Dani! Still dealing with medication withdrawal. I'm about halfway off the last medication... I have been taking my time/procrastinating with it, because it sucks so much.. I have the antibiotics to start my Lyme treatment... just a matter of feeling ready. Really not looking forward to it, but I bet it won't be as bad as I've built it up to be in my head. Things have been pretty busy both at work and at home, so I have just been trying to stay balanced and get everything done that needs to get done. I think I'll probably get started with the antibiotics in 2-3 weeks. I'd better be off these meds by then.

Thanks for the update aaron. It is amazing that you can still work and go through all of this. I guess I am more of a sissy and would be on long term health leave.
I am wishing you the best with the antibiotics. My fingers are crossed and my toes ... and my eyes.... lol

Believe me, I've looked into short-term disability... I want to reserve that for if/when it becomes totally necessary. I am lucky enough to have a very flexible job at this point in time... in the past, I'm not sure I would have been able to handle it, with the rigorous nature of previous employment I have had. Honestly, it's better to keep busy if possible... Sitting around at home gets to me.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been around much lately. I definitely have some catching up to do around here. I just wanted to give you an update on my health, which is actually good news!
So, it took so long to get off the nasty psychiatric meds that my body rejected, that I had months of time to be on the extensive supplement/detoxification protocol that the clinic prescribed, and by the time I was fully off the meds, I was feeling so much better that I decided not to go with the hard-core antibiotic approach to treatment. I'm definitely not feeling good yet, but things are much more manageable, so I am willing to take a chance and try more natural approaches. I'm still trying to figure out what exactly my first line of attack will be, but in the meantime I've just been sticking with the detox protocol and healthy diet, and things still seem to be improving, so here's to hoping that continues.
Anyhow, I hope you are all doing well! I am going to try to catch up on all the threads around here one of these days.. Things have been pretty busy lately. Just wanted to make sure you guys all know that I'm doing well and that my absence isn't due to any problems with my health!!
