Thanks guys... Yes, I probably got it from a tick... I've had a number of tick encounters throughout my youth. Although the controversial opinion of the doctor I am seeing is that it can be transmitted by fleas, mosquitos, all kinds of ticks, and actually sexually and congenitally as well. My wife feels like she might have it in early stages and sadly I think I might agree... But at least we will be experienced and she can attack it early if that is the case. Don't worry, I am following the doctor's orders... I am tired of this and ready to be better, so taking it very seriously And Dani, I've spent a lot of time being negative about this, and it just makes things worse. Sometimes it's hard not to, but I really try to stay positive. Stress really fuels the Lyme because it inhibits your immune system, so I have incentive to really try to remain upbeat.

Ticks and mosquitoes sure can spread some misery. It must be a relief to finally have a path forward, even if it's not a cure. How is Lyme diagnosed? Is there a blood test for it? We have lots of ticks here, but I've read that the imported fire ant controls their population a bit. Unfortunately, they also control the population of many, many desirable species. Anyway, I'm glad you can see some light. I imagine that will help with the anxiety right there.

It's definitely a relief to have a path forward. Lyme is difficult to diagnose, because all of the tests that exist are very inaccurate. Some of them are better than others, but none of them provide anything close to a guarantee one way or the next. False positives and false negatives are common. One of the best ways to tell is to observe the way your body reacts to antibiotics. If you go into a full blown Herxheimer reaction (when the body is overloaded with toxins from the Lyme dying), then you can be fairly certain you have it, or some other chronic infection that behaves similarly, of which there are few, I believe. One metric for success is getting to the point that you take antibiotics and feel roughly the same that you do when you aren't taking them, aside from typical gastrointestinal side-effects that antibiotics can have. I have these Herxheimer symptoms at situationally appropriate times, particularly in the case of the beach trip I just took, and I happen to also have a positive Lyme test as well, but it's the Herx symptoms that really convinced me, not the test.

Hey Aaron, you've sure been in the wars. Sorry I've not been able to see all the Forum for a couple of weeks (computer problems). I'm glad you are taking a positive approach.

Hey all... Sorry I haven't made as much progress trying to figure out how to publicize the forum as I would have liked. Our numbers are definitely down, so if anyone has anything they have considered posting, now is definitely a good time to do it... The more activity we show, the more attractive the site is to new members, and new members are what keep the site growing and truly active...
Anyhow, my health has been a real pain lately... One of the medications they put me on seems to not be agreeing with me and I have been feeling *awful* in the past few days. Things had been going so well, too. Oh well, I guess I will just have to make adjustments and keep on pushing forward.

Thanks guys. It should be a temporary setback... I found out recently from bloodwork that I have elevated levels of ammonia in my blood, which is not surprising, since Lyme bacteria secrete it, and this typically leads to overloading the liver and/or kidneys... so I'm definitely feeling like I am in a toxic overload kind of situation... They've got me on so many different supplements, and it's like no matter how much water I drink (seriously an absurd amount), I can't seem to not get a toxic reaction from things, particularly the medications... But I have various approaches to encouraging detox and supporting the liver, so I just need to deal with it and try everything I can to keep things moving in my body. Blah! Sorry for all the complaining

You are allowed to complain - from what I know of Lyme disease it is a particularly awful ailment to get. Have you thought about organic aloe vera juice for your liver - however, don't know if there will be a reaction to your medications. We are all here for you Aaron.
