Cool! They are smart, I can't even tell the difference between my friends voice and her grey, they can match voices so perfectly.

I have to comment that I did not like what the previous owner said to Scooter. Shame on her. She should know that Scooter is trying to adjust and should of said things like ... wow... nice house Scooter... Good boy... Happy boy. Geezzz... some people just don't get it. Sorry for sounding mean but boy that bugs me. When the previous owner of Oscar came to visit, there was none of the negative talk at all. The owner just wanted to make sure Oscar was happy and well taken care of. Oscar did go over to sit on her finger but wanted to come back to me very quickly. Our visit went well with sweet talk.

Allie doesn't talk a whole lot, though she is not a quiet bird. She has some things from her old home, and will pick up some things from my husband. She uses his voice, too. Cracks me up. I always think of it as her Ted Baxter voice. Those of you who remember the Mary Tyler Moore show will remember him and his phony broadcaster voice.

This morning, I rolled Ralph's cage over by the kitchen door so he could watch me while I was preparing some quinoa and lentils for future parrot consumption. Ralph likes to go along when I work in the kitchen, and for safety's sake, he goes cage and all. That puts his cage directly opposite Scooter's, so I opened the back cover on Ralph's cage so they could see each other. Ralph decided to have a chat with Scooter, and told her that she's a pretty bird and a good parrot. Scooter responded by saying Want some spaghetti? and Hi, Scooter! in her former owner's voice. A little while later, I was ready to drop down the top door so Scooter could come out to perch there for a while, and before I could do it, she said, in my voice, Want to come out now? She still doesn't want to go beyond the security of her cage, but she does enjoy perching on that fold-down door for a few minutes at a time.

That's amazing! I would love to have been a fly on the wall for that. Any chance of getting a video of the next 'playdate'?

I would love to see/hear that, too! Gary, I think you should set up a Parrotcam so we can all watch them.

Ralph does his excellent imitation of a stuffed toy parrot when I try to get him on video, and I'm not sure how Scooter will react. Depending on her mood, she can be a bit camera-shy. But I'll give it a try.

I was more than half joking, but it really would be fun to see the two of them interacting.

Mine are really good at the plush toy impersonation, too. Unless I'm trying to get still photos, and then they zoom around like X-wing fighters so I can't get anything but blurs.

That is such a nice story... they talk like they really understand and that is what is so special. They seem to have become friends... awwww... I just love that story... I have the huge smile on my face.

That was Ralph when I first got him, but now he'll sit still (at least sometimes) to have his picture taken. But he instinctively knows when I want to take video rather than just snap a picture and launches right into that stuffed toy parrot impression. If Scooter isn't in the mood to be photographed, she'll bury her head in her food dish or just turn her back to me.

This is why so many of my Facebook bird photos are of Rocky 'Too. He'll pose. He even lets me take selfies with him. Jade will go into her cage and hide. Clyde squawks and flies away. The tiels do laps. Benjy does whatever Clyde tells him to do. I have better luck with Ringo, but not much, because she will pretend she's going to pose and then when I get ready to click ... "IKE!" she says and zooms off to the curtain rod.

Scooter has now come up with a way to get scritches when I'm busy with something else and can't oblige. One of her old favorite toys is a string of large wooden beads with a big stainless steel bell at the bottom. She'll get it swinging like a pendulum and with her head in the right position, the bell will brush over it, giving scritches. Clever parrot. Of course when I tried to get that on video she stopped and headed right to her food dish.

It sounds like your training is really coming along. Nothing like a parrot (or two) to remind you of your place in the scheme of things.
