Hi Polly! Congratulations! What a cutie. How exciting! It's great that you are able to take on Polly from your grandmother. I don't usually feel this way when I see pictures of other quakers, but at least this particular photo of Polly really reminds me of our QP, Cupcake. Good luck and keep us posted on how things go!

She's very pretty. I can see a little Cupcake in her, too. Hopefully she has decided that all men are not so scary, but it could also be part of the honeymoon period. If your boyfriend can continue to approach her with kindness now, when she's probably a little uncertain of things, maybe she will drop her bias.

Well here's an update on Polly. She likes being on my shoulder and when others try to pet her she's like a guard bird lol she let my boyfriend pet her yesterday not so much today This is pretty common behavior. To avoid this kind of aggression in the long term you should probably discourage this kind of reaction in her. You may not want to let her stay on you when she acts like this... put her down when she is aggressive toward others. Try interacting with the bird together with your boyfriend. If she is in any way friendly or even tolerant toward him, strongly praise her for it. Have him give her treats instead of you... do things like have him let her out of the cage instead of you. Our quaker, Cupcake, was once bonded to just me and attacked everyone else but this can be changed... she is now affectionate toward everyone in the house. It can take a pretty long time to change, though... so patience is important. But the sooner you address the matter, the easier it should be to influence change.

That's what I started doing when she's being mean I put her in her cage and close it and I leave her alone and I give her praise and and treat when she does good behavior

When she's being aggressive, you can probably just put her down for a bit. Putting her in the cage may actually distract from the message, especially if she's in the cage for more than 2-3 minutes. You want as much opportunity for her to practice being good as possible, and timeouts, especially if they are long, are not likely to be understood by these little birds and may actually inhibit their ability to make a connection between things. So put her down and turn away for a bit... and then come back like nothing has happened and begin practicing again. Anyhow, like you said, you've only had her since saturday, so things are all very new. Her behavior will likely change a lot in the beginning as she settles in.
Keep us posted on how things continue to go!

Cupcake will try to take a bath in our water glasses when she's really desperate for a bath. So we get out a glass baking dish and fill that up and then she's happy
