So, Otis has now had THREE showers, and each time emjoyed it a little bit more Needless to say, the first time he freaked out a little bit eventually got brave enough to sit on my shoulder and let the water splash onto him, and by the end of it he was trying to catch the water with his beak as it splashed off me! His last shower (with my partner) he even went right under the running water and now seems to really enjoy it. I wrap him up in a towel and try and dry him off as much as possible so he doesn't get cold - his only grievance being he doesn't want to stay still too long! His feathers look much fluffier for it and whilst he's been moulting I think he found it quite soothing. Does anybody else shower with their feathered friends? I have a fab photo of Otis after his very first shower - if only I could work out how to share it with you guys?!?! Kathy xxx

I take Cupcake into the shower on a regular basis, although she does not like to sit where the water can get to her. She has a shower perch that I've positioned out of the stream of water. I do pick her up and manually wash her periodically, which she doesn't really like, so I've been looking into alternatives, but I feel like there is really no substitute for rain-like falling water when it comes to keeping a bird clean Despite not wanting to be in the direct stream of water or even near it, the shower is still one of her absolute favorite places, if not her favorite.

That sounds soooo cool that Otis took a shower with you guys. To post a picture look under the section of the forum "How to" and there is a section there on posting pictures. The picture must first be placed on the internet and I use "Photobucket" as it is free and easy to use. Once the picture is there you can then transfer it to this forum.
My Oscar hates the shower but he does love his baths. He goes in the bathroom sink and splashes away like crazy. I also take a towel to dry him down a bit which he does not like too much. After he shakes off a bit, he then wants to sit on my left hand and I cover his body with my right hand to keep him warm. I am a little sorry that I started warming him this way because he has a bath about every 3 days and it takes me one and a half hours of sitting still with him while he dries. That is a long time for me to keep still.

I take Sonic in the shower with me 3 or 4 times a week. He loves it, though I haven't figured a way to shower with him on me, which is what he wants. I have a shower perch, but he won't stay on it. He will get on my shoulder and run from one shoulder to the other until he is soaked. He looks quite pitiful when he is done, but hey, he seems to really enjoy it.

Bonnie is not interested in showers and only has a bath about once a week, dirty little girl! I don't know how to encourage her to bathe, but I admit that I should probably try a shower perch (I haven't got around to it yet...).

Cupcake really only bathes once a week as well... twice at the absolute most. One thing I will point out is that taking Cupcake into the shower is one of our most valuable tactics when we need her to chill out or calm down. No matter how upset or weird or grumpy she is, all is right in the world once we enter the bathroom. She has a suction mirror-perch that she can sit on while we are outside of the shower, and the aforementioned shower perch when we are in there. Both are worth their weight in gold when it comes to keeping this chicken happy and us sane.

Well, Chuckie is a real menace when it comes to bath time. Best I can manage is to put him under a faucet with slightly warm water and try to splash some onto his belly and legs. He screams and tries to climb away. Given the extremely dry climate in the Rocky Mountains, I try to bathe him at least every third day. Thankfully, he doesn't outright bite me when I am holding him under the faucet. Every attempt to reassure him and make bath time fun has been a dud. He just hates it. On the bright side, he seems to really enjoy being loosely wrapped in a towel afterwards for a few minutes. Then he worms his way out and makes a dash for my right shoulder. He completely ignores my left shoulder. Anyone else have a QP fixated on one hand or one shoulder as a preferred perch?

Oscar doesn't have a favorite hand or shoulder. He will go to any one that isn't busy.

Gordon likes to take a bath. He'll ask for it: "gotta take a bath" he'll tell me. He splashes around, then tries to dump the water. Sometimes he just wants to dump the water.
In fact, when I was out of town the last time, he told his birdy-sitter "Gotta take a bath". That's when she came over for the 3rd for 4th time that day, to make sure he was settled in for bed. So she sets up a tub for him. He splashes around, then she texts me that he looks like a drowned rat and how should she dry him off?
Thing is, when I've tried to dry him off, he acts like I'm trying to kill him.
So, he flies around a bit to dry off. I try to make sure the temperature is good, no a/c etc.
As usual, he's small, green and in charge.

Cupcake hates being dried off. She will go out of her way to avoid being toweled when she has recently bathed. You can tell it's immediately on her mind once she's wet and she is watching to see if we're going to try to towel her. She becomes distinctly evasive.

Airdrying is fine...after all, what's good enough for my dishes is definitely good enough for a QP!

After his bath, Ralph often will play with some of the parrot toys he usually ignores, to give him something to do while he's drying off. There's never been any need to do anything other than let him air dry-- even after a good soaking, he's completely dry within a couple hours. The temperature in the apartment is fairly constant all year (thanks to A/C in the summer and heat in the winter), and there are no drafts to bother Ralph.

Peppy likes to curl up on my neck after a bath. I don't know that it speeds the drying process, but it's very sweet. And I love the smell of a wet bird.
