It's Ralph's 6th Hatchday today. Despite his status as Gentleman Quaker, he didn't celebrate with champagne and caviar. He did get a taste of cinnamon donut (a favorite rare treat) and a bit of extra-sharp Cheddar cheese for hatchday treats. We went today to visit our friend at the nursing home, where Ralph was fussed over by many of the residents and staff members. One resident said "Oh! That's a Quaker parrot!" It's rare for anyone to know any more than that Ralph is a green parrot, but the lady's sister had a QP years ago. Another resident inquired if Ralph was the only parrot I have, and advised me to get a second parrot so he won't get depressed or lonely. Ralph enjoyed all the attention and hatchday wishes (when asked his age, I naturally mentioned that today was his 6th hatchday). He also got a few extra minutes of out-of-cage playtime after dinner tonight to sit in the dishwasher and rearrange spoons in the silverware drawer. I think he had a good hatchday.

Happy hatchday Ralph. I am so glad you had such a wonderful day. As if Ralph would get depressed or lonely - he is far too busy for that

I'm sure Peppy already knew it was Ralph's Hatchday, what with their superior lines of communication, but please add my good wishes!
Is Ralph named after anyone in particular?

Happy 6th Hatchday, Ralph! You sure are lucky to have such an attentive human slave. It sounds as though you had a blast in the dishwasher and silverware drawer.

Happy hatchday Ralph! That sounds like a great hatchday he had. I am not surprised the Gentleman Quaker was sampling pastries and fine cheeses on his hatchday.

I love celebrating birthdays... happy hatchday Ralph. A whole 6 years old. I had not realized that Oscar is 3 months older than Ralph. It sounds like you gave him a wonderful day. Good daddy!

Is Ralph named after anyone in particular? Not that I know of. The store where I got Ralph gives names to all the parrots they sell, so Ralph was already Ralph before I got him. He recognized his name, and it seemed to fit him, so I decided not to change it. There are plenty of illustrious Ralphs, like Ralph Waldo Emerson-- and fairly unknown ones, like the old Italian barber who cut my hair when I was growing up-- so Ralph the Gentleman Quaker has lots of good company.

And there's Ralph Malph (Happy Days), but I'm sure GQ Ralph would disavow any connection.

And there's Ralph Malph (Happy Days), but I'm sure GQ Ralph would disavow any connection. I think the Gentleman Quaker would be more likely to identify with the status and style of designer Ralph Lauren, or the dignity and creativity of composer Ralph Vaughn Williams (though he might be perplexed at the British pronunciation of his name-- "Rafe"). Ralph thanks everyone for their good wishes.
