I always have a small amount of crushed cashews on my coffee table just for Oscar. He can climb down to the coffee table any time he wants. Over time he has learned that if he brings me a cashew and puts it directly in my hand, then I will break it up for him in little pieces to eat.
Well... Oscar has found a way to train me with the cashews now... little smarty pants. He will bring me a cashew and eats a little but then begs to go into his condo.. (the bathroom drawer). He has decided to trade me a cashew for a ride... It is so amazing how smart these little guys are.
Of course 90% of the time he gets his ride and I do not break up the cashew cause I know he isn't hungry he just thinks he is sharing. (Little bit of abuse I think lol)

Oscar must have been reading up on food-motivated training, and when to offer a reward when one's human slave does a good job of learning a new trick.

Oscar is a little character. I wish we could capture some of these things on video, but that is never easy.

Haha what a sweetie. Yeah, the best times to take a video are always the ones that have already passed. I try to take videos often, but there's always moments I truly wish I could go back to capture.

Same here. Bonnie just KNOWS when I have any kind of device trained on her and immediately shuts down. It's the same with talking - when the TV or music is on she chatters away happily, but if I turn it off (in order to record her talking without background noise) she goes mute straight away. She's a little "pain in the proverbial"!

Reminds me very much of an old cartoon frog who energetically sings Hello My Baby, top hat and all, but only when no one but the man who spent his entire fortune to buy him is around. One Froggy Night, or something like that.

Cupcake is pretty good about ignoring the camera... but just having it out at the right time is what I always screw up.

By the way, Julianna, I love the title of this thread. Is the nut a who or a what? Wonderfully ambiguous. I like word play.

Thanks easttex.... I think I am the nut... lol. I am going to try and get hubby to film Oscar handing me the nut. He does it pretty much daily. Here goes nothing.

Hey Julianna, I'm am curious. What exactly does Oscar do to let you know he wants to go in his Condo? Is it classic begging behaviour (bobbing & flapping) or does he use a word?

It is classic behaviour... He points towards the bathroom and taps my hand twice (that means move). If I don't move he will start raising his wings and flapping and sticking his neck out towards the bathroom. As I start walking that way he will dance in a circle on my finger and keeps his eye on the bathroom door. I wish he would just say "condo". I say it to him all the time and he understands the word... but won't link it a form of communication.

If he starts making a noise like a clicker used in target training, I'd start to get worried
