I know why Maggie the Pigeon Queen tosses her food left and right. For one thing, they've changed the formula and most of what's in the "dove mix" is utter garbage. For another, she has favorite seeds and she wants those and ONLY those.
But why would Rocky, who has obediently eaten pellets since his first day with us, and with apparent enjoyment (as long as they're not purple; he hates the purple ones) suddenly decide to fling pellets all over his cage and the floor yesterday? They were fresh pellets, too. And in the evening, he was eating them as usual, the ones left in his bowl after his little tantrum.

Rocky might have been flinging food because it's fun and it has the potential to annoy his parronts. George the YCA used to do that from time to time, and always acted like he was having the time of his life when he was tossing food out of his dish.

You're probably right. I wasn't here at the time, and he knows his daddy isn't going to reach in and clean it up, so he had a mess and could enjoy it undisturbed.

Did Rocky see what Maggie was doing? As we know, it's always the bad habits our fids pick up from each other, not the desirable ones!

No, Maggie lives in the birds' room with the small parrots. Rocky lives in the living room because I'm afraid he's too big and one of the little birds would get hurt. Besides, he's very needy and would scream endlessly if he couldn't be close to us all the time. I worked late AGAIN last night and by the time I got home, it was full dark and Hubby was gone and the lights were off, so Rocky had gone to bed on his own, and rather than disturb him, I left the lights off and just covered his cage. This morning I discovered that he'd eaten all the pellets left in his dish AND the ones he threw on the floor of his cage, and didn't have any at all. I refilled his dish, but he must have had quite a feast because usually a dish of pellets lasts a few days, and I had just refilled it when he had his little pellet-tossing party.
