Kiki is a new quaker parrot that we brought home. He weighs 103 grams and I have seen many sights where he should be weighing about 114 to 126 grams. He seems to be happy and he is flying a little bit and climbing up on the lowest stick in the cage. trying to talk or vocalizing. He is giving me a hard time to hand feed but he is not eating enough not to. Any advice for me?

I've never had a parrot that young, but I do have a couple thoughts for you. If Kiki is in the process of fledging, a weight loss would be normal. A little weaning weight loss would be the same. It's hard to say what your individual bird should weigh. If he's blue or one of the other variations, they are typically smaller. Most of all, I would say if you have any concerns about him, your best course is to see an avian vet.

I have found quakers vary with their weight. Shah is usually around 110ish - has been 100 - the vets don't worry if he is in good health. As your baby is only 6 weeks old, it may be as Easttex says. However, if you are worried, you could visit an avian vet just to put your mind at peace.
