Hi, I inherited a Quaker from my mother a little over a year ago named Chuckie or Chuckie Chuck depending on his mood. He is at least 25 years old (he adopted my mother when he was 3 or 4) and is a personality plus bird. I have had a few challenges with squawking while I am on the phone, biting, and cage territoriality. That said, he is the first pet I have ever had and I greatly enjoy having him around. I am so glad to have found this forum! The intro video is very nice. Thank you.

Hi Bruce & welcome to you and Chuckie Chuck! It sounds like your challenges are pretty much the same as the rest of us QP 'owners' (AKA slaves) experience. What colour is Chuckie?

He is bright green, per Mattie Sue Althan's book on QPs, he matches the nominate species markings. He had been very grey in the coverlets on his wings, with this latest molt they are coming in green. I have noticed aa hint of yellow in the feathers on his lower leg. Not sure if this is typical. Thanks for asking.

Welcome to the forum, Bruce and Chuckie! My Quaker, Peppy, is an older guy, too. He's 22, and I don't know much about his first 21 years, but they are great little birds, aren't they?
It sounds like you have made so many improvements in Chuckie's life that it is probably hard to determine what is typical and what isn't. I will take a close look at Peppy's leg feathers after I get him up today to see if they look yellowish.

Welcome to you and Chuckie! I'm always happy to see some more mature Quakers join us here on the Forum. Squawking while their human companions are on the phone is a popular pastime for all kinds of parrots. The leg feathers on a standard green QP are typically a more yellowish-green, but variations in coloring among QPs isn't unusual.

Welcome Bruce and Chuckie! Sounds like you have some pretty typical Quaker issues there! We would be glad to help. I think the yellow feathers are fairly normal.

Hi Bruce and Chucky... You can be sure the sqwaking will not stop because these little guys want all your attention. Does he fly or is his trimmed? If he is trimmed when you are on the phone he could always sit on your shoulder and that would usually stop the sqwaking however, he may want to eat the phone... lol

And now, Bruce, seems the optimum moment to mention the "Human Slave Training Manual for Quaker Parrots" (sorry, this is an in-forum joke that seems to need constant re-airing). Chapter 1 of the Manual states, along with many other clauses, that "Thou shalt not talk on the phone to ANYONE" [or, indeed talk to anyone whether on the phone or not], particularly without your quaker's permission. As Siobhan - one of our valued forum members - has often reminded us, therein lies your problem....you are breaking the rules and you must be punished.

I forgot to get back about Peppy's leg feathers. I didn't see any on him, though it's fair to say they look different in different lighting. I don't think I'd worry too much about it since he's getting regular vet care, but would mention it at the next checkup.
