You know how they tell you if your Quaker's being a dictator, to rearrange his cage and it'll settle his hash? It works for a 'too, too. We had that awful spell with Rocky when we had given up in despair and were all set to hand him off to a rescue even though it was breaking our hearts. We tried rearranging his cage and presto, he has gone back to being a sweetheart. It's been three weeks and he hasn't had a single naughty day. He loves to sit on me and be snuggled or at least sit on my knee and he is very reluctant to be put back on his cage. However, at dusk, his usual routine is to shriek until we cover his cage even though he won't go to sleep until we turn off the TV and lights and go to bed ourselves, usually around 11. And often, even after we cover him, he shrieks a while. But I accidentally discovered something the last several days. If I give him a good long snuggle right before bedtime, he still might shriek a bit but not much, and maybe not at all. Instead, he'll talk and chuckle and whistle under his cover and even go to sleep eventually, even if we're still up and the TV is still on. I had been avoiding that, even though he made it plain he wanted me to pick him up, for fear of getting him all riled up right before bed and having even more trouble settling him down. Quite the opposite. The snuggle seems to soothe him like a bedtime story. Who knew? 'Toos are entirely different creatures from other birds.

Who would have thought that a 'too would shriek? And I think Bonnie's noise is unbearable at times... We've rearranged Bonnie's cage a couple of days ago and SO FAR - touch wood - she's been less noisy & aggressive. The next question for both of us: How often should we do the rearranging? Should we wait for a regression in behaviour first or try to outwit the little buggers in advance? That is really cute about the snuggling!

I'm glad to hear things have been going well with Rocky... That's definitely very cute and interesting about the nighttime snuggling. Cupcake doesn't want to go to bed without story time either, although sometimes I think that's because she wants to make sure my stepdaughter goes to bed before she does

Our bedtime routine is for the three of us to head back to the sleeping room an hour or two before bedtime. Just before going into her sleep cage, Allie gets a little special time. This time of year we go to the guest room where we can watch the hummingbirds at the feeders. Peppy is already in his night cage, which he prefers, and he ignores us. Last night for the first time, he wanted to be a part of the special time. Can't have them on me at the same time, but I took him out for a little hummer watching, too. He seemed to get a kick out of it, and really did not want to go back in his cage. It's really been fun watching his development from cage-bound to brave little bird. I am besotted!

Rocky has behaved as far as not chomping, but all weekend he shrieked off and on all day and into the evening. I tried spending extra time with him. I took him out on the porch. He was okay on the porch, but as soon as we came back inside, off he went again. It was really hot and we don't have a/c, but he has a fan and there's a fan in the window of the living room, too, and actually it wasn't bad in that room. I offered a bath. He pooped in it and chewed on the edge of the container but didn't bathe. I offered treats. He shrugged. I don't know what he wanted. The dogs were giving me the stink eye and mutely demanding I do SOMETHING to make it STOP. LOL
