Hi! I have two birds myself, but am enjoying learning about all different species of birds.
I am also doing research for my next mystery novel starring parrots. My first one, The Parrot Told Me, has an African grey parrot, and my newest one coming out this fall, The Cockatoo Called, has both a cockatoo and a macaw. Now I'm working on one with a quaker too!
I look forward to hearing great stories!!

Hi there and welcome! You will find MANY entertaining stories about quakers and other birds on this site. However, we do have a 'resident' writer/reporter amongst our forum members, so you'll have to ask 'permission' before using any material!

Hi Rachael, and welcome to the forum! Quakers are well worth a book. They are among some of the better talkers, though they don't rival the African grey in that regard. They have tons of personality and somehow manage to turn their people into quite willing slaves. You should enjoy learning about them.

Interesting!! So who is the resident writer? I'll have to catch up with them!! Love to exchange writing tips!! I always ask permission if I want to use a scene in a book!! But I do get some great ideas so you all might be getting some requests! My first book was a mystery with an African grey that witnessed a murder and talked about it. It was really fun to write, and parrot people have enjoyed it Thanks for the welcome!!

Welcome! I'm sure you'll find plenty of inspiration here for the Quaker in your story. What kind of birds do you have? I've written outlines for mystery stories with a similar theme-- parrots help to solve the crime. Don't know if I'll ever actually get the stories written though, let alone published. Parrots can be fun to write about.

I have a congo gray and a parakeet now, but I have fostered a cockatoo, an amazon, and have had cockatiels, canaries, and grass parakeets in the past. My sister has also has birds including a Senegal, caique, gray, eclectus, and ringneck. I have been writing novels for years and have 2 of a paranormal romantic trilogy published. The Parrot Told Me was my first bird mystery, and like you, it had a parrot that helped solve a crime. The African gray was the witness and his new owner heard his imitations of the victim. I have several other books written and slated for publication, but my favorite has become the bird mysteries! And with so many different types of birds with different personalities, it seems like we have endless material! Hope to hear about your stories. If you get one done, let me know. I know a little bit about small publishing presses....

If you get one done, let me know. I know a little bit about small publishing presses.... Thank you! Any writer aspiring to have something published can use all the help available. I think that the "resident writer" biteybird had in mind is Siobhan, who is a journalist-- and who writes vividly on the Forum about her fascinating flock. We had another published author on the old version of the Forum too, but she hasn't put in an appearance in a long while.

Yep, the cat is out of the bag, the resident writer is Siobhan (sorry, Siobhan, maybe we should have let you introduce YOURSELF!). I always find her posts entertaining, insightful and interesting....no, I'm not trying to bribe her for anything!

Welcome Rachael! What a great idea! Quakers certainly provide plenty of opportunities for good stories. They are such interesting little parrots. You've certainly come to the right place to find Quaker stories. We've got plenty!

Once I start writing some passages with the quakers, I can put them up here and get your opinions. I like to make sure that they sound realistic in the scenes!

That would be great! I would love to read them and provide feedback. Me too! ...but I don't really have as much quaker experience as some of the others.
