The video helps, thanks for posting that. He doesn't look ready to trust your hand yet. Keep working on getting him to warm up to you, by being non-threatening and low-key. Don't worry about trying to train him yet. It's just too soon for him. Give him some more time before demanding anything of him. When he starts to look more relaxed around you, you can try giving him something especially yummy from your hand. Something like a tiny bit of peanut butter on a little piece of toast. You can't use something like that for training, but as an occasional treat, he may come to see you in a better light.

I think most Quakers enjoy a good bath. Offer him a sturdy, low-sided dish with an inch or so of water. Peppy usually bathes a couple times a week. A misting spray bottle is a good alternative for a bird that doesn't like to bathe, but I don't like it for punishment, even if he likes it. If he does like it, you're teaching him that the way to get a spray is to misbehave. The way to get around that is to unlink the two. When he starts misbehaving, walk away. A very brief break is all it takes; then you can come back and spray him, if he enjoys it.

Oscar loves his bath time and he will let me know when it is time. His head points to the bathroom and he flaps his wings to try and go that way... (he does not fly)... so I bring him to the bathroom and he almost dives head first into the sink. I put just enough water to the top of his legs... warm water... but a little on the cool side. He bathes just like birds do in the wild and it is wonderful to watch. When he wants out he just stands there and waits for my finger. I never leave the bathroom while he is bathing ... just to make him feel safe and comfortable.

We have made a lot of progress patient was the key and now cuca is starting to trust us. I think now is the right time to teach him the step up command

That is wonderful news... the picture is beautiful... Thank you for sharing. I am sure you will research how to train them to step up... It is not difficult... so good luck.

That is a lovely photo and Cuca looks comfortable with the young girl. Well done! There are some other threads/posts on this forum that talk about the 'step up' training.

That is good news! They really are very social birds, and like you said, patience is the key. Good luck on the training! That must be your daughter. She's a cutie, too.

Wow, great news! So happy to hear it! When it comes to altering behavior with these birds, I swear it always takes long enough to seem like it will really never happen... and then it does Nice work... that sort of patience is not easy at all.

Cuca steps up to any of us and we don't have to tell him to step up as soon as we get the hand close to him he will get on and stays there and let us touch him

That's really great. Congratulations!! You've really done a nice job. Can't hurt to keep saying "step up" even if he does it anyway-- strengthening the association is good

Another Update, he bite me when I try to make him step up and I locked him in the cage for a day, the next time I went to him and opened the cage, he flew out immediately, he had never done that, and when I got close to him he stepped up and he seems very calm with us. Before I could see he was breathing fast when he had him.
I'm curious if he knows that he was locked in the cage because he bite and now he won't try to bite me again.
