Hi my name is Lynn and I got a new Quaker parrot about 2 weeks ago, her name is Piper, she is only 3 months old and I have her in a cage that measures 18x18x23, I am going to get her a bigger cage but I am not sure when to do it? When is the best time to switch to a bigger cage, while she is young or in a couple months?

Welcome to you and Piper! I'd suggest that you go ahead and get the new cage now. Even if Piper doesn't move into it right away, it would give her a chance to get used to it being there-- something that can sometimes take a little time, since parrots may be reluctant to accept new things. Piper may be ready for the new cage now. I have no experience with parrots quite as young as three months, and I suppose it's possible she may need to "grow into" a larger cage.

Welcome, Lynn & Piper! I agree with Gary, I don't think there's any harm getting the bigger cage now. We got Bonnie at 8 weeks old and we popped her straight into the full-sized cage. As he's already mentioned, you may want to put it where she can see it and get used to it (given that she's already in a different one). You could leave the door of it open for her to look at when she wants to. Then you could gradually move a couple of her toys/things into it. She might decide on her own when she's ready.

Welcome Lynn and Piper! The others have already said everything to be said here, I think, but I wanted to say hello!
Please feel free to ask any questions you might have, and keep us posted on how things go!

Hi Lynn and Piper. As cnyguy said... Piper needs to get used to the cage before you put her in it. When you get it home place it beside her present cage and let her examine it and even walk on it. Be sure to give her a lot of perches so she can climb up and down inside it. She may eventually go inside herself and after a few times, you can relocate her food into the new cage and I am sure she will be fine.
